Is it due to being afraid he will get nerfed, shame for using him or the overall negativity corrupting the enjoyment? I play Phantom too, not good at him. He WILL get nerfed, there should be no shame in using anything they purposefully added to the game and yeah the overall negativity has put me in a sour mood too.

Expect changes to his shield, according to the dev stream.

It’s not a shame issue. It’s more a fun issue.

Most of people are shouting “OP” over the internet because he’s basically extremely tiresome to fight : whe you find an enemy phantom, most of the time the “fun” is one sided towards the Phantom player, and what you get is tears and scream. I can myself understand why he’s so much hated as someone that both tried to play him and fought against him. I almost threw a fit of nerve a couple of times.

It’s not especially because he’s OP, it’s much more because fun shouldn’t be one sided. And don’t think it means nothing : having fun is more important than anything.

If i do play phantom i get t-bagged by atleast 3 of the enemy team members every game.

Yeah it’s a bit sad that people can’t adapt. Curious what they’ll do with the shield though. If they remove it and leave the cloak as is then I’m just going to have to shake my head a bit.

If they take the shield off I’d at least like to see 100% invis no matter how you move to compensate. Least then you’ve got something going for you. Though he is then basically the spy from TF2.

You mean he’d actually need to be played smart instead of just running full charge at people? Sounds fine to me.

I will give him this. I get 50/5 scores all the time, but it wasn’t until I started getting those same scores with Phantom that people started to go super saiyan.

No, then he’d get chipped 24/7 trying to flank people and spend all his time trying to regain his HP only to die as he tries to attack someone who by now has learned to look for him.

Yeah but unlike the other high health mercs he doesn’t make sure to hold good positioning and maintain distance. It’s just the play style.

And without the shield he’ll just be another assault merc with a pointless ability because people can spot it pretty easily and effects nothing but himself. But since they’re going to make a change I’ll wait to make any solid judgement till they do.

How exactly is 120HP paper? It’s more than the average HP.

Because of how he plays. If he tries to get to you with a melee weapon he’ll melt and you’ll take no damage. If he can pull off shooting + melee combo though, well that is still a problem.

It’s not so much the amount of health as how he plays. Most of the time when I do die as him, I get absolutely shredded and die faster than I would as any other merc. All because of how he’s played.

I don’t really think he’s OP, though his shield could use a bit of tweaking. I think right now is that people don’t know how to counter Phantom yet, like when Rhino came out.

Indeed, that’s pretty much how it stands. I can think of at least a handful of ways to completely neuter him with the tools we have at hand. Heartbeat sensor, shotguns and Nader-eggs being at the top of the list.
