I keep missing melee finishes. Am I a lousy aim, or is it buggy?

I’m referring to running towards a downed enemy and stabbing mid-run. I’ve improved some by experimenting and it seems that if I aim for the lower half of the body, I get it much more often that aiming for the top half.

It’s quite annoying to try a melee finish, miss, and then die as they are revived.

It is because the Melee was nerfed quite hard, after Phantoms release.
So your turnspeed is reduced while performing an melee Attack. Thats why most ppl tend to crouch, while melee finish an downed Enemy.

I think they tinkered something with how the melee weapon applies the actual hit and how it visually looks like on your own screen, so timing your crouch just to the exact “moment of connecting” with the melee could do the trick too. Might be worth trying to practice for that timing. Youknow, just so you dont have to crabwalk on top of a glorious battlefoe after a tiresome, awesome gun mettle in order to deliver the finishing blow.

Also, remember to use fast-slash  I’m not doubting you, I just know from…krhm…experience, lets put it that way, that even lvl15+ might still be using heavy melee attack for no apparent reason for finisher move.

I do it because it looks cooler ; )

I have to completely agree that especifically with the case of the cricket bat it does indeed bring much more vivid, brutal taste to smash poor helpless opponent’s head in to end his gurgling suffering with an all-in behind the back full-force swing which momentum spawns from your loins themselves, rather than the friendly teddybear pat that the fast slash represents.

When I saw this my jaw dropped. :o

What I do is (I play as Sparks.) I take out my pistol and finish them off, But if I know there is no enemy around me then I take out my revivr to finish him/her off.

Hope this helped

My God that’s alot of BBCode.

Anyhoo, you shouldn’t have much trouble finishing off a downed player with a knife, crouch if you really need to.

First off I know.

And second, I don’t want to take the time to run out of cover just to knife an enemy for a few XP.

Here’s some rarely heard of advice : Its generally faster to either headshot them with your pistol when they are down - most mercs will die after 2/3 headshots. Or if you feel like being John Rambo switch to melee and fast attack (default LMB) - It’s much faster than the default middle mouse melee atack and will still gib.

Ive gotten rather good at finishing my enemies with a melee hit while running, but there are moments when i miss, and i got to turn around, and ether shotgun them (i play rhino) or pistol them if they are too far, but it always feel so much more awesome when you run and knife, or run and cricket bat
