hello everyone, I am no noob at Enemy Territory and I am the Pwnzor of my school. but I cant make a Fraking map! I read a ton of articles on your site and I have yet to create my own map which I can walk around in. I even have tried to add textures to other ppl’s maps (not that I would say they aare my own) but it still didn’t work. please help a mapping newb.

It would be great if you provided some more info about what you need help with, first, know this, mapping takes a lot of time and a lot of reading in the beginning (after that it takes a lot of time and some additional reading). By the sounds of it you need to read some (more?) tutorials. Seen this link?

ok I have done things in the following order:
made it -256,256 to 256,-256
made hollow
lifted it up
added info_player_deathmatch
added redspawn
added bluspawn (yes I made them invunerable and start active)
added Team_wolf_objective (allied)
added Team_wolf_objective (axis)
added light (100)
put the mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs in the worldspawn enitity menu
added textures

then it either doesnt work or i freeze in limbo!!!
when it doesn’t work, what is the error that you get (maybe look in console)
and if it freezes in limbo you probably didn’t put in the mapcoords the right way, make sure they make a perfect square.
Did you compile it into a .bsp before you tried to load it into the game.
Your second post doesn’t indicate that little step.

That is the reason why that map freezes, i guess.

The trace map is only nessicary as a height map, it make it so mortas will work and other such things.
You don’t actually need team_wolf_objectives. You don’t have to do anything with the spawns, even though I guess it’s OK. But have you made the walls Structural instead of Detail? I’m not sure if it’s needed but have you added ambient?
Ambient is totally unnecessary, for sure.
If all his walls would have been detail, his map wouldn’t be able to compile as Q3map(2) needs structural brushes to make a BSP.
I’m not that sure about the spawns though, the team_wolf_objectives mark the spawn areas. I thought that older versions of ET crashed if there was no valid spawn point for a team you just joined.
I start my mapping version of ET with ETPro 3.1.0 and use box maps like this to test things:

It only contains an info_player_deathmatch, team_CTF_bluespawn and team_CTF_redspawn. No coords and no limbo- trouble 
Copy these lines into notepad and save it as boxmap.map for example.
there is an error message at the start of some of my maps that say something like
and it doesn’t exactly freeze in limbo, it freezes the second I press the L key, the countdown stops and then it doesnt respond
EDIT: I tried the map you gave me shaderman but it still freezes before I enter Limbo.
Error message: non-standard character PB kicks and PB on this server.
I think I have to disable Punkbuster dut I don’t know how.
I think this isn’t an error - more some kind of information. If PB would kick you, you should get a message saying something like “you’ve been kicked by PB…”.
Sounds like you have the good old limbo problem
I suggest you add mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs in my sample map and try it again. Are you using a “clean” ET installation for mapping?
I added the mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs and now it freezes before the map is even up!
what do you mean by “clean” ET installation? if you mean that my program isn’t working, I have tried from two different sources of GTKRadiant-1.4.0.

I think I know what the matter is
my teacher told me, we use GIMP
and GIMP uses GTK
so if I uninstall GIMP and GTK, and GTKRADIANT on this computer…
then it should work, no?
GTK, GIMP or GTKRadiant have never crashed my PC. If you think these could conflict, just make sure that they aren’t running when you’ll start ET.
what did you compare your map settings to (to be sure they are precisely set)?
