Phantom and Rhino (especially Phantom) are generally speaking considered as niche mercs.
I have made a guide on Steam which gives you a general idea about the different mercs.

Phantom is garbage. Why do you want to use a poor ability to become ‘apparently’ invisible when you can have a Merc with a more versatile / powerful ability?

Rhino is at best Ok if you are decent at shooters. Can be used defence / offence, but vs decent players you’ll get shut down easy. And if you are good, use a better Merc.

Can’t go wrong with Fragger, Nader, Sawbonez, Skyhammer, Arty. Best Merc out of the four you’ve mentioned is Stoker.

Rhino is… Well it gets boring after a few matches IMO. Phantom? Its fun erm… fine to use :slight_smile: Stoker - quite a nice merc if you don’t count that it’s a bit broken ATM after the last “bugfix”. Kira? Well I’d take her because I really like her with br-16 and maybe some katana? Laser is pretty nice as well :slight_smile:

Best improved merc is Kira, although the BR16 got very bad nerf lately… Phantom is still off of his former glory, same with Nader and Fragger; Stoker is broken due to bug fix, Phoenix is only for suicidal players. Splash Damage is contemplating of Proxy sacrilege… her mines are very escapable by fast mercs like Kira, Aura and Sparks, and occasionally Vassili and Aimee.

There’s no such thing as a good merc. Only a well performing DB player.

Phantom is still not as good as he should be. Rhino is a niche merc because you have to like him to enjoy him. I did. And only a few people actually do. Stoker is broken by a bug.
Take Kira. Objectively the best pick from the 4.

Stoker, when he’s patched so his molotov gets fixed and actually finishes off enemies it kills again. I wish they’d buff Kira’s HP to 100 so she’d actually stand out like Nader does among the female mercs.

For a good, all round merc go stoker. He will be the most versatile for you. Kira is slightly more niche in her playstyle, but in the right hands she can decimate.

100 easily justified by her attire, course I’d also like Vassili nerfed back to 100 hp as well since for some reason they’ve decided only Phoenix should have 100 hp.

lets see here…

you can see Kira’s (please dont attack me for saying things) Breast shaped thru her front Chest rig, which suggest she isnt wearing plate armor (unlike Rhino or thunder or fragger)

this one chest rig with a plate carrier.

comparing Kira’s Breast with a bulletproof armor with a Type 3A vest

level IIIA vest

Type 1 vest only protects against 22LR cartridge and .380
Type 2 vest protects against no higher than 45ACP
Type 2A vest protects against 9×19mm +P (high pressure loads) and .357 Magnum rounds.
Type 3A vest protects against .357 SIG, .44 Magnum, 10mm Auto, 7H21
Type 3 protects against intermediate Rifle Cartridge
(5.56, 7.62×39mm, 7.62×51mm, .45-70 solid copper)

while most of the armanents carried by the mercenaries in DB are in 9mm
(not sure if its 9mm +P) Many of others like Kek-10, Crotzni, Timik, M4 etc. will peneterate level 3A.

also note that there are no such thing as Bulletproof vests. There are only Bullet-Resistant vests which implied it will fail after shot at a couple of times.

another case for Vasilli, it would seem that he wears Flak Hoodie which protects him from shrapnels and fragments from explosion but doesnt protects from small arms fire.

A flak jacket is a form of body armor designed to provide protection from case fragments (“frag”) from high explosive weaponry, such as anti-aircraft artillery (“flak” a German contraction for “Fliegerabwehrkanone” (aircraft-defense gun)), grenades, some round shot used in shotguns and land mines and other lower-velocity projectiles. It is not designed to protect against bullets fired from small-arms such as rifles or handguns. However, certain flak jackets are able to sustain certain gunshots, dependent on the armor, the gun, and the distance that the bullet has travelled.

100HP should suffice.
