I got outplayed, in a way

(JRMC) #1

Not necessarily a better play than mine, it was simply extremely confusing to understand. - Let me break it down for you:

I was playing Phantom with a loadout card with a Stiletto knife. I thought to myself: “Eh… Why not? The augments on this loadout are useful.” At some point in this match I flanked the enemy’s base and met an Aura, which spotted me immediately, and she started to back up, like they all usually do, and sprayed me down. Not enough to put me down, so I got close enough and shanked her with a quick melee attack because she was near death. I even heard the hit connecting followed by blood but… I suddenly drop dead.

I looked up at the kill board and she had countered my attack with a melee attack. Same knife, the Stiletto. Now, this left me completely baffled. Not only did the animation fail to play, like they usually do, especially for Proxy’s mine throw, but the default melee key uses the slower attack, yet it countered my attack which is faster and was definitely a hit and kill.

There were no connection problems between me and this player, yet they managed to take me down faster than I could’ve. My only theory is that they pulled the knife and since the animation didn’t play, they were already attacking; Or it was a momentary case of lag. But I doubt any of those are actually true since I know for a fact that I had hit first.

What you see is not necessarily what is happening on the other players screen.

Hence my point of the animations failing to play. Given that this is a fast paced game, I’d expect it to work properly. I died many times because I didn’t see Proxy players plant mines in a gunfight. It could be easily avoidable, yet they got the advantage because their animation didn’t play.

This would have been extremely helpful against this case, so I could’ve taken precautions and avoided the attack. I thought they were backing up and had to reload or something.

are you sure that your connection is fine? because afaik proxy mines are server side like all non hitscan weapons. I don’t think I have ever seen an instance of a proxy mine showing up unexpected ( as in missing throw animation / mine visuals spawning).

As for knifing switching to knife and quickslashing is almost instant if you got the muscle memory and have the knife button on a easy to reach key. also the stilleto has pretty short range considering that your target was a fast moving aura that had to stand pretty much shoulder to shoulder to you, you could easily missed the switch.

The way you describe it, it sounds more like some connection hickups, it could very well be that the latency between you and your enemy was large enough that she stabbed you first (from the servers view) this could also mean that your pc got the message of its death before it got the message that it should start to play the animation for switching to a knife.

Might also be package loss somewhere along the road.

The server is pretty bad atm. I don’t know why.
I have a very good ping on EU. And I encountered something similar today. I defused a C4, was killed maybe a second before I could finish it, but after respawning (it was a convenent 0 sec respawn) I magically finished defusing and the message that I defused the C4 popped up. I just feel we have some weird heavy rubberbanding.

I’ve had the same thing with Vassilis and cricket bats, and it’s mainly a ping issue. I’d guess it spiked a bit, or your connection dropped slightly, and they hit you first on their screen. Unlucky, but not that rare unfortunately.

Mhm, I got used to the constant packetloss playing from germany for at least half a year, now (I’d have to necro some very old thread to find my first experiences of this stuff).
Especially the Stockholm(iomart)- and Maidenhead(multiplay)-servers are quite terrible, the London(also multiplay)-servers are, except the later afternoon, most of the time, quite ok. In the beginning only my bullets where going nowhere, ae-effects sucking me backto them, while already out of range, and so on.
Funny thing is, nowadays, nearly every time some high-high-pingers or mostly suspicious people are on the server, your shit is happening to me, too. Not only finishing stuff while already dead, but the for example, the repairing automatically somehow starting again after closing back in on an objective or getting a second of lag and then instantanious dying from a headshot a few meters behind the corner.
Some parallels here? No, I guess, people having high-pings or messing around with the server won’t affect other players because “Everything is working as intended”, right?! GG… again.

I honestly think it might be my network adapter. You see, it’s an USB adapter. When I was building my custom rig, I asked my uncle for help, and he completely forgot to include a network adapter. He’s selfish as he is, so he told me to buy this USB adapter. This way he wouldn’t have to worry about it, and I only know the very basics of hardware.

Either way, my point is that I have been experiencing issues ever since I got this adapter. My internet service provider is one of the best. Never had problems with them. Yet, with this adapter my connection drops out at random; often there are spikes in the connection; the connection speed decelerates for long periods of time; among other issues.

None of these issues that I can confirm happen while I game, but it’s certainly worrying, even if my in-game latency seems to be stable enough. It seems stable, but I continuously experience delayed hit registration, for example.

I already sent a ticket to the manufacturers, and I have yet to get a reply.

Its normal that Shots/Hits get canceled the moment you die.

Because of this im aswell frustrated a little because i e.g. as vassilli aim for enemy head, pull the trigger hear the sound of the shot coming out of the sniper but i die the same moment and my shot gets canceled and the enemy is still alive.

Either this or some minor lag applied to your situation.

A USB to wired internet adapter, or a WiFi card? WiFi is in no way ever a satisfactory connection method for power users, much less gamers.

Also, I think the Aura switched to a knife. You switch to a knife so often to run, most people have it bound to a quick key. I can pull out a knife and slash you in the blink of an eye, just by stroking my scrollwheel.

It’s an USB adapter:

There’s really no way that I can bring my router to my room to connect via cable.
