I got Easygen to work.......... now this.

(Arkon) #1

Well it’s time for Arkons Error of the errr day/week.

Well I got easygen to work, as some of you might have read in a previus thread of mine. And I am enjoyiing it profoundly. I am producing some awsome terrain. Here’s the problem.

Well on my third terrain/map, i made it quite big 25000x25000. With divisons of 70x70. It looks great in game, except for one area.

well if that screenie doesn’t work (first time posting images, just look at this link.

you should try and stick to square numbers for your terrain dimensions (and all level design stuff in general), it will look much cleaner in the editor and is easier to work with when it comes to adding other brushwork to your map. try 128 or even 256 unit terrain brushes.

could you post your terrain shaders?

Hmm, I’ve just remebered terrain-issues mentioned here in the forum when parts of the terrain have 0 units height.

(The Wanderer) #4

did you by any chance delete portions of the terrain in radiant(especially corners)?
If so the alphamap might not be aligning correctly with the terrain

(Mr_Tickles) #5

Also, as you may have noticed in Easygen, you cannot have three or more textures coinciding at a vertex otherwise you will get at least one black triangle shown. This is not a problem with Easygen, but with the compiler as I understand it, and that may give rise to the odd looking terrain you are experiencing. So… if this is the case, just alter your terrain map in Easygen so that you have no black triangles.

(Arkon) #6

Well, I want you guys to know, that I do not remember deleting any terrain in radiant, but I will make sure, or just re-import it. And about the black triangles, I make sure everytime I make terrain that there are none. I will also try Davids suggestion, of makeing everything of square dimensions. I won’t be able to try this until monday, but I’ll report back then. Please continue with any suggestions you may have.

Thanks again.

Oh and about that 0 height. Trust me none of this has 0 units height.

rgoer made some q3map2 specific easygen templates, id give those a go http://www.map-review.com/index.php?page=tutorial_view&id=12

(Arkon) #8

Thanks but no thanks torchy. I have those installled. That tutorial is where I learned how to use easygen.

(LowLife) #9

I had this once, i solved it by adding noise in easygen, and some vertice editing, to make it not perfectly flat.
It seems to come only when terrain is too flat.

(Arkon) #10

ahhh, wise plan. I shall try that now.

AWSOME, thanks err… LowLife :stuck_out_tongue: . I’m so excited, I’ll post some screenies soon.

Thanks again everyone.
