I’ve seen one player do things as described in the first post. I can’t link to it directly, so I’ll just quote a post I made last year on our own forums:

A player kept changing his player name within the game. At first I thought he was just messing with his clan tag, see the first couple of lines of the log below, but I can’t explain what happened after that. All this was done without a disconnect. I started to record demos because I couldn’t believe what I saw.

2011-06-04 13:11:33 : Perfect[Beka]0 entered the game.
2011-06-04 13:23:07 : Perfect[Beka]0 is now known as Perfect[Beka] (<-- could be explained by changing clan tag)
2011-06-04 13:28:16 : Perfect[Beka] is now known as Perfectgdrg (<-- same)
2011-06-04 13:28:17 : Perfectgdrg is now known as ggrgdrgdrggdrg (<-- it gets weird from here on)

That looks like he’s bugged his name selection when he made the account and is now only using the clantag function to change names.

I somehow doubt that. I used pb_plist to get his guid (you can see the result of that in the post above) and pb_plist ignores the clantag completely, it only shows the account name. The ~ALIAS~ simply means that several different account names were used by the same guid.

Which shouldn’t come as a surprise .

He somehow managed to mess with the account name on the fly without disconnecting and that shouldn’t be possible in this game. I checked the guid back then and it’s been used by countless people from completely different countries, so it’s probably an illegal key.

This is probably a workaround (need to be tested) to fix this glitch:

pb_sv_AliasFn “pbalias.dat”
pb_sv_AliasAutoLoad 1
pb_sv_AliasMax 2
pb_sv_AliasMaxEnforce 1

Players who joined the server with more then 2 aliases will be booted.

The thing with etqw thats a bit annoying, once players recognise your handle as someone that gets 70 kills a map… some of them just try to hard counter you regardless of whats going on in game. So to avoid that, you have to alias a bit. That said, I wouldnt expect that to be an issue these days in etqw.
