I feel like the map layouts are too easy for the defenders.

On a number of maps, it’s EXTREMELY easy for defenders to completely lock the attackers out of an objective (Usually the first) and completely dominate them throughout the game. This is NOT fun to play against. I think the primary issue is that a number of the starting spawns for defenders are easy kill machines for two specific mercs: Rhino and Vassili

An easy solution would be to prevent people to spawn in as Rhino and Vas for a few waves to give the defenders a fair chance. Or redesign the starting objective areas to have more methods to approach an object. (Ex: Reparing the transport in citadel could be done from above or below ground.)

Just a thought.

The maps are actually well balanced, a good team will win no matter the side (unbalanced would mean a good team would still loose one side).

Thing is attackers have the compulsion to move. They have to act. While defenders react.
That demands teamwork/communication or in pubs atleast that people now what to do.
Since you brought up Chapel let me illustrate.

The first objective needs you to repair the EV. Obviously it is easier to repair, if the defenders can’t attack the guy repairing. So the rest of the attacking team has to bind the defenders in fights and push them away from the EV. This way an Engineer can repair it without interuption.
However if the attackers don’t push hard and instead take up defensive positions behind the EV, the EV becomes a contested area and it is hard to repair. Even worse, if the defenders are better there is a chance that soon the contested area is your spawn entrance and you will never see the EV again.

This is true. It can be tough in pubs. Even when I nicely team type AND politely ask in voice for everyone to concentrate on engaging the defenders and let the engineers repair the EV…you stil get like 2 Skyhammers and an Aura all twisting their wrenches while the defenders swarm over everyone and take up bunker positions in the garage behind the EV.

Maps in ET had the same problem until players learned how to do it as a team. On Fuel Dump the enemy could sit back and call down artillery strikes on the build box for the bridge from across the map. They could literally lock down the tank on the other side of the bridge until they were either killed off or harassed enough for the engineer to build the bridge. There was a back way to their little perch and the attacking team needed to push into them to give their engineer a chance.

It’s the same with DB maps. I think the community just needs a bit more time to learn to pub the objectives.

Chapel 1st attacking spawn: all exists can be covered from a single point. Every attacker ends up on the same short street.

To make matters worse, you have the garage (bars on the windows prevent most explosives from entering) to cover the EV and just outside of the garage is a low wall providing partial cover to defenders.

Many Chapel games begin and end at the start. It’s frustrating for the attackers and boring for defenders.

Every Merc sitting in the garage is a Merc not covering the spawn exit points. Besides that garage can be attacked from 4 different angles. The barred windows still allow you to shoot through, you can come directly from the front you can run past the windows and come through the sidedoor, you can go the long way around over the small bridge and use the MG nest. Thats not to say that getting people out of the garage is an easy task. but its not impossible.
The best option is obviously what I pointed at in my first posting to not even let the defenders near that garage.
Push hard with the first push and get to repairing imidently. The defenders can’t revert repairing process and a repair will forward the respawn giving you some breathing room.
