I feel bad for SD

(Brink Lags) #21

When your answer to unplayable lag…let me say that again…UNPLAYABLE LAG, is to nerf the game’s player count, I have zero confidence they’ll be able to wave a magic wand over P2P network stability.

The fundamentals for a console MP game don’t exist for Brink (Lobby/Party System), so how are they going to fix fundamental P2P issues.

Halo games are built from the ground up to handle P2P, and you’ll still see some minor lag. I don’t know what the priority was building Brink’s P2P from the ground up. It feels like it was tacked on. Not confidence inspiring to say the least.

They are probably going to have to add dedicated servers or let their console version die.

For the record, I’ve gotten bad lag in a game with 5 humans and 11 bots. There is something fundamentally broken with P2P right now if you can’t handle 5 human players.

You’re a fool, then.

Take for instance the lack of voice communication, an integral component to any successful multiplayer co-op game. They have a txt file where all they would need to help fix this issue immediately, without even needing to put out a patch, is change 3 or so numbers. It has been days and they are too incompetent to do even this. I think they are busy partying it up with all the money they stole from selling a beta-state game.

I think they will fix the lag.

Don’t forget Call of Duty: Black Ops had unplayable lag for the first couple weeks it was out, and it had to be patched.

And when they fixed that, parties of 3 or more couldn’t find games and were forced to fly solo.

And how many prequels did Black Ops have to rely on for perfecting code?

Brink is a brand new IP. Lag is expected, and expected to be fixed. Yeah it sucks, but this isn’t where you should have problems with the game. I do think they’ll fix it.

Where I have genuine problems, is the lackluster campaign and lack of game modes to compensate for a lackluster campaign. Maps that are meh in design, and take little advantage of SMART which is brilliant and works wonderfully.

And if you’re a console player, you know we need lobbies. Badly.

I think this game is awesome… i don’t have lag at all, (ps3) and everything works as it should

I feel as bad for them as I do for Infinity Ward.

Splash Damage made an amazing game, and too many critics judged it VERY poorly.
Infinity Ward, made a great series, and built it from the ground up… to many little kids want a mini game about killing zombies rather than actually getting a better new innovative game.

So don’t feel bad for Splash Damage, if their heads are in the right places, they’re very proud.

Some of the reviews for this game weren’t even accurate. Like IGN for example slamming the SMART system. The reviewer must be an idiot, SMART works for me every time perfectly the way I had hoped. Not sure WTH he’s trying to do.

Infinity Ward is a totally different story. They were screwed by a huge A-Hole who everyone in the industry knows is a huge A-Hole (Bobby Kotick). Which is why Respawn is suing activision for 80 million. I hope they win.

Splash Damage should be proud. I find Brinks gameplay far more entertaining than the COD series which has failed to create anything new and innovative in years. Blops is MW2.5.

But Brink is indeed needing some help. Lag prevents any 360 owner from enjoying the game MP, and crappy AI prevents it solo. The achievements are a joke (not that I care) but you can hit 1000/1000 too easily. And the lack of lobbies is like a huge punch in the gut to 360 guys. It makes MP almost unplayable even if it weren’t laggy.

Combine that with a terrible campaign (can anyone disagree?) and we have a couple problems in an otherwise great game. But being that the campaign is our only option, with no different maps, no true FPS MP maps, and no varied game modes, there isn’t much else for us.

They have a very short time to fix everything. Even June is really too late as I can name about half a dozen titles people will want to play, and thats just the June releases.

That’s exactly what I’m saying, critics who said it was crap judged it unjustly. Example, most critics say the graphics suck, there’s no story, and it doesn’t have a lot of maps. It’s so ironic because 5 of Valve’s last multiplayer games (CS:S, Day of Defeat: Source, TF2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2… more specifically the first 3) only had less than 6 maps on release… which is less than BRINK, and it’s getting a 6.5 out of 10 average? Ya right…

I know the scenario, that’s why I’m not buying MW3, I was questioning buying MW2 because… well honestly, I knew despite IW REQUESTING and Activision acknowledging that IW could become and independent developer and the COD, MW license’s would be under IW’s name, I knew Activision wasn’t going to let it’s only source of income go away. Kotick is a brilliant money maker… but like money being the root of all Evil, so is Kotick. He is the Hitler of the gaming industry… he can destroy it, games COULD be nothing more than just generic shooters or whatever sells until it goes out of style.

Call of Duty’s developed by IW (and Treyarch starting in 2007 with W@W) all ran on the same engine deprived from id Tech 2.0. It wasn’t till COD4 that they stopped calling it idTech2 and started calling it IWEngine3, (MW2 was IWE4), and all that happens is every year, Activision gives Treyarch the engine and the DK for IWEngine and Treyarch uses it to make the next COD. Ironically, Black Ops runs on “World at Wars” engine… which really just makes it a heavily Modified COD4 engine. It makes me wonder what happened with upgrading to IWE4, but then again, I remembered how Broken MW2 was, and figured IW sabotaged the engine at IWE4 so nobody else could reap the franchise for what it was worth, or at least the engine…

What games are those? The only one I see taking fame from BRINK from now till June is L.A. Noire, which is a singleplayer, and those don’t have half as much replay value as MP games, and Duke Nukem Forever, which I’m only getting for SP… I’ll try multiplayer but I bet $1,000,000 I’ll be back to BRINK after I’m done with SP…
