I don't know how to play the game any more...

(JJMAJR) #1

I didn’t play for several months and I tried playing again.
Spoiler alert: I sucked.

I know that there’s typical things like “aim for headshots” and all that jazz, but I came back from a game with very clustercucked maps, no support classes, and really low framerate. The general strategy was to push as hard as possible because spawn camping is both easy to do and an extremely painful experience. Not even explosives break spawn camping there.

Now I return to objective-based maps and I’m rushing like hell, trying to get kills like a moron. Fuck the tutorial and the assault course, making morons out of gullible people.

I guess this kind of thread would be beneficial to actual noobs as well, and helpful for the devs to make guides that are actually beneficial to the player taking part in them.
This is kind of a troll post, but I tried putting something constructive here.
My friend always said to me, “Aim for the chest, not the head” back in my Insurgency days.

Because you’ll aim for the biggest body part and naturally, the recoil will kick the gun to the head

I always lose my stride too when I take a break from a game. It can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days or so to get back into the groove, sometimes longer. Sometimes I end up with a different style of play, too.

Pretty sure try the first bullet on the head since it is 100% accuracy.

(Mc1412013) #5

Up close i cant hit the head for sh@# but sniping i have a 90-95% chance of landing a head shot

(Madonna_) #6

I usually start to play worse the longer i play in a streak, need a pause of a day or two.

(GatoCommodore) #7

i need to sleep like an hour then i play like usual again if i kept worsening

Tips for aiming. Trust me I looked these up myself while trying to improve me own aim and its helped a ton.

1.) Aim for the head. This is a golden rule in most fps games but no one tells you how to do that effectively. Put your sights at the level of one of your allies heads in the start of the match and while moving try to keep your sights around that head level, while adjusting for hills and stairs and the like at all times, this way when you do come across an enemy your already aiming at his head or very close to it.

2.) This is a big one. Use your arm to aim not the wrist. Most people rest their wrist on the desk or wrist pad and use their wrist to aim. This is ok but not the most effective way. You should be having your elbow resting on your arm rest and the wrist hovering above the desk. Then use your arm to move the mouse and aim and only use your wrist for small adjustments. This increases aim by a lot because your arm muscles are far more precise then your wrists because their muscle memory is far better. I forgot how they explained it exactly but it does work. After changing this one thing my aiming accuracy almost jump up by 50%. Almost all pro level gamers use this method to aim.

Warning: Changing to aiming this way is hard and takes time to get used to. Your aim may suck ass for about a week or two before it gets better. But its worth it.

3.) Pre-aim and pre-fire. When taking corners try to aim for the spots where you think an enemy maybe hiding before you turn the corner and if you are pretty sure like 80% or more that an enemy will be waiting there then start firing a second before turning that corner so if he is there you are already firing on him or her and if you are following step one your also hopefully hitting the head. If all goes perfectly you will kill them before they even realize they are being shot.

These next few are more for survivability then for aiming. You can’t help anyone if you’re dead.

4.) A stationary target is a dead target. Try to always be on the move. If taking on coming fire, weave side to side in as unpredictable manner as you can. Jumping can also help but only when jumping off a wall or something near by so you’re not just moving up and down. When you jump you slow down and its easy for someone to predict where you are going to land unless you use something else to change that trajectory and make it more random and unpredictable too.

Warning: This will make it harder for you to aim too. But with you knowing where you are going and them not you should be able to keep your aim on point far better then they can.

5.) Know when and where to retreat to. As I said before you can’t help anyone if you’re dead. No matter where you are fighting always have an escape root in mind. Somewhere easy to get to that provides cover when you are on the run or at least some walls to jump back and forth when running to make yourself a harder target to hit.

You want to retreat when your health is critical. Even if the enemies is as well. You aren’t really helping anyone if you kill one guy but you die too. You have to play with the mind set of trying to get at least two kills for every one of your deaths to earn proper value on your kills.

6.) Communication is key. If you have a mic, for the love of god, use it! Try to coordinate pushes, inform your team when you think the point is clear, or when an enemy is flanking. Stuff like that. Also never be belligerent with your teammates. Moral is important to any team based game. Even if someone is doing badly make it your job to try and help protect that person so he or she can better help out rather then constantly dying and literally being dead weight.

7.) Don’t be afraid to change mercs. If you’re not doing well with one type of merc try a different one with a different play-style that you think can better counter your enemies mercs. For example if they are playing a lot of AoE damage mercs then you probably want a good AoE medic like Phoenix or to a lesser extent Aura. If there are a lot of low health mercs on their side try switching to either a sniper or hard hitting close range mercs with a lot of health like Rhino or to a lesser extent Thunder. I understand this maybe hard because you can only bring three mercs so try and keep a merc for every situation. One combat merc, one medic, and one engineer.

These are just a few tips I know. I hope they help. If someone else has any other tips please list them I’d like to hear what you have to say too.

Funny story, I put the sensitivity of my mouse extremely low so that I can make more precise shots. This usually results in me smacking the mouse against the keyboard and abruptly stopping me from aiming at an enemy.

I guess the moral of that story is to adjust sensitivity so that you can hit stuff properly while not having your aim be restricted to a stupid cone.

No, the moral of the story is to get a smaller keyboard.

Back in the day I used to try to swap between games often. At first, even spending an hour or two in one game meant I’d suck for a while in any other game. My muscle memory and habits would transfer from one game to another when you don’t want them to. However, eventually, you play enough of both and you keep switching up games and try to mentally switch over to each game then all of a sudden it doesn’t matter which game you boot up. You’ll be back in the saddle quickly. I’ve found that this also works when leaving a game for a while then coming back as your mindset and your muscle memory settle back in quickly.

Also, as far as the sensitivity goes, I got rid of my full size keyboard and bought a tenkeyless just so I’d stop hitting my keyboard when going a bit too far to the left with a swipe. I’ve been super happy ever since
