like a profile, voice chat, and global chat, the thing is that the bigger the community is that the bigger the game is to.
and maybe something more personlist
and i know that it’s not finished and it in alpa stage.
i don't know how it going to work, but maybe something more social
Well i could easily see how a social side could be integrated into the game with these forums… you add people as friends on these forums then you can join on them in game through the server browser but with the integration here, you can track activity on discussions/topics that your friends are active in. If you really wanted to go the extra mile, i guess you could alter profiles here and add stat tracking displayable on each profile from the game (but that leads down to a whole different topic of ranked/unranked/divide in community - unwilling to try mod content if doesn’t track stats etc)
In terms of interaction in game, the text chat is fine… global/team…i’d like to see more development towards fireteams in this game, that was a nice feature at the very least just to have a private chat with friends on the server that you are playing with without annoying everyone else on the server. Also being able to have different coloured arrows for fireteam mates was useful but again this is drifting away from the topic…
Voice chat, personally i just mute in game voip as soon as i enter any game, purely because i am always on Teamspeak with clanmates/friends if i am playing with them otherwise i will just listen to music. I guess people not in this position may appreciate it.
only when it comes to some comp matchmaking with some randoms, the voice chat will be useful… i think its enough when a nice teamspeak overlay works with the game. But having a working text to speech, its even better (no distractive sounds as white noises etc).
Isn’t this part of what the Warhead site/system is going to be about? Part stat keeping, part clan/community hub?.. and how that integrates ingame too?
Yeah an in-game mailing system would be nice. Especially since this is going to be F2P and you want to mail items to an alt account or something.
I wouldn’t mind built VOIP as long as you have all the features of being able to lower people and/or mute them.
I imagine VOIP would become a necessity if any type of ranked/ladder matchmaking system get’s implemented. Any means of better coms systems overall is endorsed by me.
just popped into my mind: A simple type of a chat client, included in the launcher or even standalone, which allows you to chat outside of the game, without to launch it. to push the additional network effects for the game
Im sure SD already thought about
For Friendslist: Dont limit friendslist to 100 or any other small number, should be much more
For Pub play: When ppl can message you via pda. You press a certain key, then your friendlist pops up and you can choose the friend and type a message. Should be able to disable it ofc. Maybe makes not a lot of sense, cant write a message in combat but would be a nice detail.
EDIT: In addition, i think about some other tools for comp play. Built in game tools such as personal organizer, calendar, provided map overviews ready to draw on it for strats, for teams/clans who want to start playing comp.
I mean really basic things, to make comp play most attractive for even pub teams who want to try it and really easy to start. Since the ESL stuff for EU teams can be bit tricky and really unclear (the page is so worse imo^^).
In combination with the skill-based-group system and weekly hosted mini-tournaments where people can earn such Dirty Bomb currency. To reward even beginner teams! In the first place, most ppl want to play pub, but maybe half a year after release, im sure enough ppl will try to join the comp scene, at least for once. /Daydreaming
I think the launcher SD has right now isnt bad. I would bet that a chat system in the launcher a) isnt too hard to implement b) would add some more social community to DP. I dont know if any shooter out there has a “Chat System” which can be used when your not playing and the game isnt running.
I also think a behaviour of a player after a match could be rated with some reputations points, and maybe with some given keywords like: teamplayer, selfish, good, beginner, or advises like more support pls …etc. Can it be that ppl will be more likely to show a different behavior? There could be a subtle indicator for that, ppl will see how much reputation they earned, e.g. thats a cool bro or no wonder, this dude isnt a nice player… i dont want that ppl will be prejudged by that or accused being a XXX. some karma-system or dark-light side idk. I think every action a player takes in a game has a consequence, and i would like to put an accent on that. I want when ppl are showing a bad behavior, that they are responsible for their action and take the negative reputation in order to think about it. E.g. Player insults ppl for no reason, basically they will do it all the time, but maybe when they see they get sth in return, a echo of other players, they will at least stop spamming the chat or else.
EDIT: I want sth to unite the community and not seperate-> most players nowadays are likely to insult everything and everyone who are better. Ppl have to be teached about fair play, sportsmanship etc. would be great if that would be rewarded somehow^^

The only problem I see is, that this system could be abused heavily. Furthermore does a negative reputation stop other players from not playing with him in the team? It’s not like everybody can just switch sides if they don’t like one specific player. This system would just add a bitch fight within the community. And if you got a bad reputation you can just create a new account as this game is for free.
You can’t prevent “bad” players from any game. Sorry, but this will never work.
I see the dilemma, but it hasnt to go in a strong direction, so the likely abuses loose weight, should only give hints about a player. I mean where people can abuse, most ppl will do it, a certain amount of potential risk exists always. It can mean that wont do anything or it can mean that abusements are going to decrease. At the other hand there will be always exceptions as a fact.
It is only a matter of how you present this reputation a concerned player. It can be combined with some extra XP, coins, the reputation itself? There can be advises, or title/caption but way better names for better reputation and basically no title with negative. it can stay neutral then.
I know it is hard to achieve and implement such a system, and i doubt that it will find the way into the game. But having multiple levels of social communication, messaging and interaction, not only through simple text messages, can be a really exciting question which ill love to see answered. Maybe this spark will light up later.

enough right now, further to the next topic
Instead of giving rep, you can have a personal favorite player list or blacklist. Just on the personal level so nobody else sees what you think about other players. But this system would only be useful when you use a matchmaking option where you cant see with/vs whom you going to play. Dont know if this effort is well placed in DB.
Xbox has a system you suggest, but the normal xbox game is a matchmaking game without the possibility to join a server.

Seems like you agree with me. They should rather spend their time doing something else.
A build-in and automated tournament pool tree would be really cool.
League hosts could construct the tree to their own liking, insert the teams, set the right time between matches and then press ‘start’ and the tournament starts. It would give a nice way for streamers to follow and the entire tournament including the replay files relating to the spots on the tree can then be downloaded and re-experienced.
I’m totally up for any sort of system which makes competitional events a part of the game, rather than 3rd party interest, be it tournaments, ladders and leagues, clan challenges, etc. It would also mean that most of the competition players are “tracked” within the system and would be easier to construct a rating for each one.
I’m also not sure that a player-driven rating system will work, also from the abuse perspective. There is the middle way that forums use to do, with tools such as “Like” and “Report”. You like smth, you rate it up, but when you report, there is a reason which needs to be validated by a moderator (FireFall, GuildWars2 forums use this system, to name a few). It gives the sense of security, because everybody’s happy and “rated”, but it fails to indicate the player conduct in the sense you’re describing it. Actually there could be some game indicators which might add to such a rating, specifically how good you performed while playing a class, amount of actions toward support, rather than kill, etc.
+1 agree with all this, not sure if the launcher has been updated for you guys yet (as I’m just coming back from GDC and don’t have the game on my laptop) but there are the starts of (early) social features going in…
