I can run it but... (Also if you are wondering if you can run it yourself))

So with a 2 year old 700 dollar rig (would have cost up to twice as much if i wasn’t thrifty or if i didn’t make it myself), that could kick any game’s ass until now. Is Brink some super game or do you think that Splash Damage/Bethesda is being too safe with their requirements, having their recommended system requirements being the equivalent to a computer that can run 16x AA without frame rate drop?

Edit: I think I forgot to mention that the website below states that I do not meet the recommended requirements, and my limited knowledge of graphics cards and processors confirms it. However, my graphic card’s base stats, like video memory and pixel shaders, surpass what is recommended from the suggested cards. Of course, new cards aren’t just about more data fit in and higher efficiency…

This is the fantastic website that can read your current system hardware and compares it to developer-based requirements: Can You Run it

(I know there are other "threads related to being able to run it and all but, it seems that this website is really not well known and needs to shine!)

i think that means… umm… /thread

A few things that make me confused. I played Crysis 2’s and Bulletstorms’ demo and I can run them flawlessly. (Though he demo for Crysis didn’t give me options, nor does it have a recommended settings, just minimum).

Brink is on a ID engine 4, basically equivalent to Source in terms of how long it has been out. Of course, there have been extensive modifications on both engines throughout the years. This recommended requirement seems a little too much. The cards recommended cost about $400 2 years ago and were basically top of the line. The passing the recommendations usually has you able to run programs with everything at max except anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering.

This is really shocking that to me. I’m having a midlife crisis for my computer.

Btw,dont trust CanIrunit it usually shows wrong anserws.

Except that unlike Source SD have been developing, enhancing, improving and effectively rewriting idTech4
That 6 years of engine development, I think you can expect for the requirements to increase

(tokamak) #6

Right and Valve on the other hand, didn’t do anything with the Source engine at all…

I think Brink will be lighter than we think.

Yeah, SD is careful to usually say “Highly-Modified iDTech4”. In one of the dev interviews, one of them said that he would be surprised if any of the original code was left.

But that being said, this isn’t a maxed-out-computer sort of game. If you can run all the games up to date, you shouldn’t have any issues. Its been in development for 3 years (which at the very least means that its “older” than games released at the same time) and is said to be optimized quite well.

Off-Topic like shiet, but yeah…

Wouldn’t this heavily modified ID Tech4 Engine be a new engine if all the code, or the majority and more of the code has been rewritten to something else?

SD Tech5?

I think the point is, it runs the same way, it’s just been improved or changed to fit Brink in all areas. As opposed to a whole new engine built from the ground up.

HM ID Tech5? Aight, I’ll stop :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay, thanks for making that clear, Shadow

(trigg3r) #11

If you could run crysis 2 and bulletstorm without problem, i think u should be fine with brink

(cowfish13) #12

I understand, but CanIRunIt usually answers the questions, “Can I Run It Well?”, a question a lot of of people ask.

I guess the main point of my topic is to just wondering if the recommended stuff seems absurd to anyone else. I’m hoping I can do everything max except for AA and Anisotropic Filtering.

why no Anisotropic Filtering?
it’s pretty light on the hardware, more so than other options.

also can i run it just checks video ram instead of the card…wich is not a good measure.
they probably even give you a “yes” if you can run it barely at 640x480 with 15fps…

(crazyfoolish) #14

Can you run it is a lie. It tells me that my graphics card with 1 GB of VRAM has 2.7 GB.

(LyndonL) #15

Does you card use shared system memory?

(crazyfoolish) #16

I’m sorry i thought that was only for integrated chipsets. I will try to find out. Thanks.

Good deal: $140 for the latest HD 5850 revision from Sapphire sold by Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004W75ATI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I’m on the verge of ordering two…
