I can proficiently play Phantom.

I can’t really say it’s an opinion that he’s bad though. If you want to kill people you choose Fragger, Nader, maybe Vas. If you want recon you choose Vas and possibly Redeye (I haven’t tried him since his buffs hit). Both outclass Phantom in every single way.

MM is pretty much a pub anyway right now, there’s no proper established meta game in it and it’s completely different to actual competitive with rulesets and the like. I don’t think we’ve seen Phantom used once in an actual competitive game outside of when that one team picked him and got absolutely destroyed on Bridge. And while competitive players will always choose the best choice, Phantom is never that, ever, and that’s why he honestly needs something more if we’re balancing for the higher end of players and not pubs.

Phantom can be effective and good at correct hands like other mercs can be also super bad if used completely badly. It’s all about how and where you do use your merc.
Phantom is not the best choice for competitive matches, but in public it’s alright choice.
After all my main mercs are Phantom and Phoenix, so I keep playing with those two a lot.
If abilities are the top reason why you pick up characters, then Phantom might not be the best choice, but if weapons and other kind of things matters at all (like for me I play with Phantom because I’m having so much fun while just listening what does he have to say + katana is handy and KEK-10 is love), Phantom is not that bad choice.

I doubt that I’m the only one who have different preferences of mercs, what comes about public matches, competitive matches and tournaments.

(Heard somewhere that developers were considering some kind of EMP - thing for Phantom.
That would be something interesting to see.)

Make him less visible and boost his speed under cloak. Problem solved. Once spotted, he’s screwed. Right now, however, he can’t sneak ANYWHERE without being seen by anyone above level 10. At least he’d fit a role similar to a sniper with these changes: picking off targets when they’re focused on his team.

I like how he is.

I enjoy finding opportune times to flank/pick off important targets and back off.

Flanking while they’re distracted is also an easy way to get a lot of picks too.

He does need something else to make him more competitive, other than that he’s an all around great merc.

(His cloak armor exp needs increasing though.)

They should remove the heart beat sensor detection whilst cloaked and stationary for 2s because we all know that Phantom can slow his heart beat down to 10 bpm whilst lurking. Redeye IR detection should remain.

My buff suggestion for Phantom would be to provide an emp wave when he breaks cloak that destroys deployables. That way you can send Phantom to his doom to take out Rhinos aura station.

I play phantom with doubletime without katana. Katana is very situational, and generally a bad choice against good players; with the only exception being light mercs that can be instakilled.

If they made Phantom just a tad more invisible when not sprinting, and turn down the hum accordingly, Phantom could actually become a viable merc. That and maybe back up to 10hp
