Why is everyone saying this game was over hyped if I got very little to no publicity outside the internet?
Hype?
People just hyped themselves up by building ridiculous expectations of the game in their minds.
Hype doesn’t necessarily refer to quantity of advertisement or attention received outside of any particular source.
For example:
Hype: Exaggerated or extravagant claims made especially in advertising or promotional material.
In their own promotional material they did particularly “hype” a couple of things.
One being the “incredible”, “massive”, “awesome”, “nearly infinite” amount of customization. By their claims prior to the actual release of the game, I think they are struggling to live up to the bare minimum of such claims. I understand why they chose not to do the sliders and allow individual face customization and individual, unique color customization. Those things are hard on the resources. However, they could have twice the amount of options for clothing, hair styles and accessories. Especially since they skipped out on the female models.
The second being their SMART system, which is actually pretty awesome. It seems a bit clunky at first and almost makes you want to go and say, okay, that’s not what I saw on the video. But after a little a practice, it’s pretty good. With a little tweaking it could very well end up perfect.
Well said, Ferrsai. Re-watching some of the preview videos narrated by the devs can be a little cringe-worthy with all the hyperbolic adjectives they toss about.
Brink still has so much potential, it’s just a shame it’s not the super-slick genre defining game it was promised to be.
Yep. It’s a broken promise. I for one was very excited and I’d watch the videos like crazy, thinking “I can’t wait to do that.”
When it came out, I was like “I’m never gonna get to do that thing I wanted to do.”
Instead, I’m getting one-shotted by quickscoping headshot aimbots, and trying to fight an 8 person team of superbots by myself.
Awwww yeaaahhh.
