Huge oversight for the Open Beta week: No objective specalist in rotation

(triteTongs) #1

With all the new players flooding the game, I would have expected the free rotation mercs consist of ONE objective specialist.

This game is all about the objectives. I just don’t understand why that wasn’t illustrated to so many new players. I keep hearing about the EV taking forever to repair and instantly getting destroyed? I keep hearing about spawn camping. I hear new players getting frustrated with others for not helping on the objectives.

Well, would an objective based merc have fixed some of those issues? Most EV games have been so one sided because of there’s no objective specialist most of the time.

I started playing when proxy was in rotation and I fell in love with the game because I understood the objectives so much better with proxy. I was actually winning games with her, and that got me hooked. I can guarantee I’d probably have not enjoyed this game as much and would have eventually uninstalled it. To me, it would have felt like a generic P2W TDM “TF2 Meets COD” game… a comment I keep hearing a LOT of from new players.

I hope I’m wrong on this, but I just got that feeling. At the very least, there would be more of a chance for a newbie team to win a game.

Very good point, tbh. With 3 mercs in rotation, 1 should be one of the engies all the time

(Aazhyd) #3

I support this.

(Tomme) #4

Agree 100% we have three engineers in-game and one should always be on rotation, an objective based game needs an objective based merc available at all times

(god1) #5

I still don’t understand why Proxy isn’t a completely free merc.

(Nail) #6

any one can do objectives, if you want to do them faster, save up, get an engi

(Ardez1) #7

True, anybody can do objectives. Unfortunately in a pub that requires some level of support from your team. I have seen some tournament/comp teams run without a specialist because they were confident in their abilities. The big difference is that only the specialist can do things fast. In particular defusing/planting C4.

With 3 specialist mercs being available, you would think more people would own them

It’s been hilarious the last couple of days. Any time I went to pub, even on 8v8 servers, quite a few times both teams will be without an engineer if I don’t bring one myself. I do agree that Proxy should just be free for everyone or have an engineer always be in the merc rotation.

(Nail) #9

nah, they go for whatever they think is OP (Fragger) then bitch about someone else not being engi, after a couple more levels you have enough to buy an engi, but most will buy a sniper instead

I see new players actively trying to do objectives. But they are trying to repair the EV as Aura or Skyhammer. I wonder if they assume that the plant, repair, and diffuse times are really just that long?

I had a friend that didn’t really enjoy the game. He always went aura. It felt like he was playing it like a TDM game and flanked all the time. Didn’t really heal as much as he could have. I told him to go Fletcher and then help me plant the objectives, etc. Suddenly, he really enjoyed the game. Like he suddenly knew the entire point of the game with that objective based class.

That experience echos my experience a bit. Back a few months ago, I played this game. I had no idea what I was doing so I just focused on getting kills. But, since this game is more skill based for kills… It felt dumb, so I quit. I came back to it randomly and went proxy. Learned the objectives and it was awesome. I had some incredibly close games. Games that make your heart race more than a 1v3 CSGO clutch. That was the hook for me.

Just imagine if proxy wasn’t on that rotation then and it was just “Sawbones, Kira, and Fragger” and I came back. Would I have quit? Quite possibly. Just out of frustration.

I still don’t know why they didn’t make 3 free mercs, or at least proxy free instead of skyhammer :frowning:

(Kouken) #12

This is a huge problem, games now consisting of mostly new players who arent learning about the engineers effectiveness
The free rotation is going to effect gameplay until it is changed

Please rethink your MERC process, dont have to make them all free but please have 1 engineer, 1 support and 1 medic free at ALL times for players, especially new players

(avidCow) #13

Skyhammer is a good choice for sure, but new players concentrate on fragging and giving themselves ammo, and with regen health they are generally self sufficient and do a lot of fluffing about shooting their never ending ammo at mid to long range. Can’t blame them tbh, as a lot of the new Aura players play her as an assault with a portable health station, and when she takes off at a hundred miles an hour in front of the group the Skyhammers can’t keep up.

Skyhammer, Sawbonez, and Proxy would be a better free mix.

(Nail) #14

the game will weed out the players who don’t understand, it’s still a Closed Beta TEST, haters gonna hate, Players gonna play

(Runeforce) #15

Still seems kind of dumb that engies are never explained in the tutorial. Free proxy (or any other engie) and better tut is needed before release.

(Mr-Penguin) #16

And then of course there are the new players who think that the more people repairing/planting/disarming, the faster it goes. Once I had a Sawbonez, Skyhammer, and me (as Proxy) repairing at once. I ended up protecting them, only for them to get blown to smithereens by an airstrike.

I honestly think that the tutorial needs to be expanded to teach people about the mechanics of the objectives, or maybe have several mini-tutorials about different catagories (Combat, Abilities, Objective, etc.). That would make the game less frustrating for all of the newer players.

(flameChicken) #17

I believe Proxy should be a free engineer, it’s only logical.

(R5on11c) #18

Just give a rotation of engineers on their own switching between bushw@nker, porksy and fletcherino and you have an engeineer at all times without giving away a certain one for free

(avidCow) #19

Yeah, that’s not bad.

(triteTongs) #20

I’d rather this.
I mean that’s what got me to buy the starter pack. I knew I was going to get proxy anyways so I was like, welp whatever.

Plus, making proxy free will break the starter pack and also break everyone’s hearts who JUST bought proxy.

Let people choose which objective merc they want. I’m sure they would prefer one over the other. I prefer proxy over fletcher. Too bad there are not 4 objective based mercs in game. That would make the rotation even nicer.

I would not mind seeing a rotation with NO objective mercs in rotation every so often. But this should NEVER be the case if there is a double xp weekend, an open beta, a stress test event or whatever. Any time an influx of players are expected to join— have an engineer!
