HUD all white!? cmon SD, fyi it causes burn in!

(MastaPiff) #1

My tv is fairly new but its actually just shy of a yr. old… Why SD do u have a HUD (heads up display, aka all the info on screen) in super white!? there’s a million colors out there and a lot of the information on screen is decorative (big ol’ circle around the abilities on the left!?) or doesn’t change status at all… It’s 2011 and lots of ppl play on plasmas… every other game I own I have played for fairly similiar amounts of time & Brink is only 1 I own with this much junk on my screen @ all times…

I’m surprised nobody else has mentioned this… please give us an option to change the color of the all white hud or make it more clear/see-thru… I turned down the video brightness on the games options but now the lvls are dark, my tv’s brightness settings cause no problems on any other game I play… please do something about this asap because now I can’t play Brink or watch TV because I’m currently running static/snowy picture on my screen with the gamma turn all the way up (best way to fix some burn-in btw… I’ve done it b4 & it works…) til this HUD super glow goes away!!! I love this game so please patch this ASAP so I can play again!!! I’m ticked & I should be but thank you…

I like the minimal HUD, guess you can’t please everyone!

It’s because with plasma screens, if you keep the same bright image on it for a long time it can permanently “burn in” to the screen so you see a ghost of it over anything you watch. Game HUDs and things like PC desktops/the XBOX dashboard can cause really bad burn in if left on for too long.

Doesn’t burn in take many hours? Like a few days straight?

Edit: I just googled it, sounds like you’re making a mountain out of a molehill. Man up, princess.

Our resident expert here just googled it, u obviously play Brink on ur mom’s setup. 50" 1080i 3D plasma is my issue. I imagine that avatar is exactly what u look like… nice haircut… (No! Don’t do it! LOL)

This happened in 2 1/2 hrs… the problem is the HUD is all white & is the oppisite of minimialst… its practically a dashboard!!! The burn-in should come out but its gonna take a day or 2 of letting the screen run static… I do a lot of gaming on this tv & this is the worst burn-in I’ve had. I haven’t even had a burn in issue since the tv was 2 weeks old, like 10 months ago, so of course I’m upset & a lil worried.

I don’t mind the style of the HUD, it’s just that the whole HUD glows white especially when ur gun’s clip is full, when u can use ur skills & the objective icons on the bottom left… We’re not all playing on our parents PC like our expert here, I paid $1000+ for this tv & have played 12-15 games on it for longer amounts of time so I’m suprised they just missed that this could happen with an all white HUD. Most (none I or my friends own, or have options to change/remove/adjust the HUD) newer games don’t have all white or single color HUD’s for this reason.

Anybody PC or console gamer who spends there hard earned money has every reason to mention this oversight so that it can be fixed (just need an option to adjust the clearness/see-thru of the HUD or a separate option to turn down the brightness of the HUD. There burn-in is done I just hope it comes out. The post is to make SD & any other plasma screen gamer’s to pay extra attention to ur gamma settings on the game & tv because I’d hate to see more ppl with this issue due to this great game!!! Please fix! Thanks!

It’s burn in…it goes away…calm down.

I have played a few games that caused burn in on my monitor - it isn’t permanent.

I remember this picture of a guy giving away his 50" TV for free after his roommates burned in an image of gayporn. Priceless.

I mentioned it somewhere… I’m getting burn in on my TV too… I think they just weren’t accustomed to developing for consoles, and all the little precautions you must take…such as making the HUD semi-transparent or something.

I noticed the burn-in after the first day. I played about 4 hours that day…

I guess they overlooked this, adding an option to change hud transparency couldnt be too hard surely?

Did you seriously just insult my avatar’s haircut? You’re lucky you’re on console, or you’d have burn in of “Redeployment in” across the top of your screen.

A while back I noticed there was a small level of burn in after playing Mass Effect 2 for an extended period of time. After turning my LCD TV off for the night and putting it to use the following day, the burn in from before was no longer present. So at least in the case of LCD displays, burn in isn’t permanent. Can’t speak of plasma TVs as I’ve never owned or used one.

In the meantime while the problem is still present, have you taken any other initiative to prevent the burn-ins? Things you can do like adjusting the color presets on the TV itself. I know newish Samsung’s give the option from warm to cool colors. You may also check out the contrast settings.

I know this doesn’t fix the game, but I know the first thing I would do with the money spent I spent on my TV, is take every precaution to make sure it doesn’t go to waste over a $60 game.

Shoulda went for Samsung or did you ?
They have Screen burn options in the menu, i have a 50 inch plasma 3d tv with this option.

It runs a white through black(gradient) bar across your full screen, clearing any burn in, id imagine you can find one online and run it via usb, same effect.

Incase im not clear

Use this function to help alleviate the effects of any image retention due to broadcast tickers, logos, 4:3 standard programs, static images, game HUDs, ect.

What im saying is you can find an avi or mpeg file with the white to black scrolling image and run it
