How would you rate Dirty Bomb's merc balance ?

(Eox) #1

I just think it’s a good enough moment to feedback the devs about the current state of merc balance in DB. Basically here you rate the balance on 5. 5 meaning that the game is perfectly balanced, 0 meaning that the game’s merc balance is totally chaotic (with some mercs being litterally overpowered to the point of detroying the game, the universe and your jimmies). I don’t want to pull that thread out after the phantom and thunder buffs, because I am afraid that it’ll affect the votes badly.

Keep in mind that I am talking about balance between mercs. Not about the team stacking issues in pubs !

Don’t forget to explain the grade you gave ! And please, avoid to throw a fight about game balance.

It’s hit and miss for me.

Some mercs aren’t as useful, others are so-so, yet another group is too useful and overshadow other mercs, and of course there are perfectly balanced ones.

Pretty much good. Could use some tweaks here and there for sure, but mostly good.

Sparks is broken on a design level and no amount of nerfing will make her go away. It basically can’t be fixed without reworking the whole merc. Also Redeye is stupidly strong with little to no counterplay except picking him yourself and then we’ve Rhino, Thunder, Phantom, Proxy and to an lesser extend Phoenix which aren’t as competitive viable as they could be.

Overall mechanically speaking, the mercs are really balanced, but design wise, they aren’t.

(Xenithos) #5

Merc balance is an incredibly difficult thing to do. DB provides balance quite well considering what they give it.

(SaulWolfden) #6

The only stand outs are Thunder and Phantom for being lol bad and Fletcher for being stupidly good.

(AConfusedAlpaca) #7

Always room to improve but very few complaints from me, the Starter mercs aren’t bad but as you level can be utilized in more unique ways. Overall i will always have a hate for players that are good at Sparks (Mostly because pf my below average aim) but nothing else stands out to me.

only a few mercs stand out as being op, for the rest, people just dont know how to use that merc.

(AnimeDude) #9

Better than overwatch where some heros literally get “I win” buttons coughmcreecough

(scrub_lord) #10

Overwatch is leagues ahead of this game when it comes to balance. This game has way too many Mercs that are overshadowed by better picks, not to mention 1 to 2 loadouts that are straight upgrades from the rest for every Merc.

McCree has some of the worst mobility in the game and is terrible in team fights. Next you’ll probably say Bastion is OP.

please stop talking to me. What does any of that have to do with the fact that if you walk around a corner and a mcree is there, you’re done for, that’s all there is to it, it would be different if you actually had to aim at all, but you don’t, it’s literally just an explosion of “it’s over, I win this engagement” and then the M2 instamelt follow-up. He’s anti-fun.

The Vassili jumpshot nerf really got me. For me, that was a huge debuff for Vassili because it felt like an ability was taken away from him.

(Scav) #13

I wouldnt say anyone is OP atm (even tho Fletcher or shotguns in general comes close to that line, love Fletcha tho), rather saying some mercs are just quite rubbish in comparison. In my preference especially Thunder and Phantom. Thunders hitbox is ginormous and Phantom is just Phantom.

After trying sniperPROMLGplayer style a bit, i wouldnt say its an ability, rather just a way of having fun. Its a really stupid thing by itself, but also really fun to do. I dont mind if its gone, cause its stupid, but its also fun to do.

(DeadPixels) #14

I would say that Dirty bomb is really balanced. Some abilities could use some tweaks.
That’s all folks

(SereneFlight) #15

Most of the part it’s good so… 4… -1 for unwillingness to balance certain aspects of the game and even nerfing mercs to the ground… actually I feel like I should have given 2 minus points.

(watsyurdeal) #16

For me right now I feel like it’s somewhat ok, but there’s certain mercs that are either unbalanced or just flat out bs.

With Assault mercs, I feel like Rhino just should not exist, he brings nothing to Ranked and is just annoying to fight against on pubs. Thunder is still not great because they keep trying to make him Fragger essentially, Nader is good in her own niche, Thunder needs something like that.

Aura and Sparks need some tweaks, Sparks should be able to snipe and kill 1110 hp mercs imo, but she should lose the health packs. She really shouldn’t be tanky at all. And Aura’s health station should be reworked, not a constant stream of heals like it is now. But I’d much rather it’d have a pulse that radiates every second and starts your health regen. She could be buffed to 90 hp.

Fire Support, I feel like Arty could be less spammy, Kira’s laser should have it’s old speed back but have a little more warning before it drops on people. If Skyhammer and Arty have that why shouldn’t hers?

And Stoker is just in his own category, I really do not know what he needs changed other than maybe an arm time on the molotov and a stronger molotov in general.

Engis are ok except for Fletcher, but let’s see what happens.

Recon mercs are ok ish, Aimee and Red Eye are solid, Vasilli is better now that he has corner peeking back. Phantom needs to be given some sort of spotting or given the Engineer’s tools, cause an EMP field just basically ruined any chance of being stealthy.

(BananaSlug) #17

overall its good, but some mercs need buffing to just dont be weaker, i also dont think that taking away emp from flashbangs is a good idea

(Black) #18

I feel like SD is one update focused on merc balance away from a good balanced merc selection.

There are some obvious imbalances in the mercs that have been failed to be fixed and it’s making the game unenjoyable.

(LifeupOmega) #19

Majority of mercs have their place, there’s a few peaking above or below. Most things, everything considered, are in a pretty good spot.

What do you do if you come around the corner and a Reaper is there? What do you do if if you come around the corner and a Mei is there? What do you do if you go out into the open and there is a Widow across from you?

Maybe you should learn to adapt to your opponents team comp and grow some awareness instead of blaming the game for your own faults. His flashbang has no range and if you’re willing to roam around CQC areas by yourself knowing a McCree is around, then it’s your own damn fault.

It’s ironic, because Dirty Bomb has plenty of insta-gib/win abilities.
