How will Splash damage release PC dedicated server files?

(DarkangelUK) #21

Really? You’ve not played very many games then. Q3, UT, RtCW, W:ET, CS/S to name but a few could all have their max team settings changed. 64 player Market Garden anyone?

(Diablo85) #22

I have played all those games, but I always thought those 64 players where the hard cap? I have never seen any 128 player servers at least in any FPS apart from Joint Ops.

(Nail) #23

only W:ET and CS/S are less than 10 years old

(amazinglarry) #24

True, but those other games have persisted for a while, and there’s every reason to believe that someone who’s played for 10 years should have probably played at least a few of those. That’s my lame opinion, anyway.

Rambo Medics!

(Avoc) #25

Might be a bit different now that Brink is also a console game. Most console FPS games have a hard cap on player count due to balance and FPS concerns.

(Auzner) #26

32 slots could just mean it runs two servers on your account. They tend to virtualize these things to one physical box that could have two or four quadcore processors. Maybe you share a machine with someone else’s two as well.

(Cankor) #27

They will tell us as soon as Bethesda lets them.

I’m not holding my breath for public server files, I think one of the reasons there isn’t any info yet is because it’s not good news in that respect. Maybe SD is still trying to convince Bethesda not to make them private?

I wouldn’t think it would be a single provider like Blackops (we rent a high powered dedicated box and we can run as many servers on it as we want, but we had to go to another GSP for our Blackops servers which really sucks balls). If they are private hopefully it’s more like BC2 where you have many options on who to rent from.

(EnderWiggin.DA.) #28

Badman,

Any news on server files? I was asking the company I rent my servers from and they weren’t even sure when Brink was going to be released :frowning: . Anyway, they asked this:

Admin 1: Do you have a link to information about dedicated server files?
Admin 2: We will be offering Brink on the release date provided the server files are released along with the game immediately. Otherwise, we will be offering it as soon as the server files are made available.

Also, will there be a list of “approved” server providers or will it be fairly open for server providers?

(ButchCassidy) #29

I’m hoping Badman has something very soon?

With just over 3 weeks to go, they are running down the clock in order for Clans, gaming groups and GSP’s to get ready.

Nice to see so many people posting on this thread because it is important for everyone and needs to be kept insight and high on the forum thread list…

No server file info could mean a big problem on launch day…Fingers crossed we won’t be waiting much longer…

The silence is worrying. While I’d like to think its a Gabe Newell level troll of the forums and everything will be alright, my cynical side says we’re about to get dicked.

What gets me is if the news is so obviously bad and there is a need to hide or manipulate, why fecking make that decision in the first place?

I’m right with you, it’s very worrying. The devs have had plenty of time to answer these queries - after all, they’ll gladly answer what colour hair you’re able to have - but they don’t.

Please SD, put us our of our misery. :frowning:

(Auzner) #32

They’re not “silent on this issue,” they just don’t read the forums as often as everyone believes.

(Diablo85) #33

I see SD developers online at this forum every single day. And these concerns have popped up so many times lately. I find it really hard to believe that they haven’t read this thread. So yea they are keeping silent on the issue.

(Mustkunstn1k) #34

It is highly likely that they have noticed this thread.

This forum is quite active, but a person could easily check in once a day and read all the new things in 10 minutes. I have a feeling that there are SD members who do this…

And indeed, there are devs in the forum all the time.

(EnderWiggin.DA.) #35

I’m not worried. It’s primarily a MP game by design. It would be suicide to not have stable server files ready for testing at GSPs a reasonable time before release. My questions stand though.

It’s the weekend. I personally didn’t expect a response but the squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that.

(Auzner) #36

Yes, maybe one of them will post one thing in one thread once every other day. That doesn’t mean they read the entire thread or every thread before it.

This is what makes matters all the more confusing to me. It is essentially a MP game by design as you so rightly say, which makes the silence all the more baffling. Servers and connection details should be one of the first things on the table.

What I am wondering more and more, is that while it’s essentially a MP game, is it also essentially a console game? All signs so far suggest that’s the case and I get it, I really do - it’s where the money is. I’d just appreciate some honesty, rather than silence on the most pressing issues.

And yes, the devs are on these forums daily. They seem VERY selective about what they reply to however.

(Nail) #38

who releases server info 3 - 4 weeks before game release ?

inless it’s a list of “trusted providers”

Agreed, but noone is asking them to release anything that could pose a security threat. It’s not like we’re asking for the files.

For example, they’ve been asked to explain how this supposed “blurring of the multiplayer and single player games” will work, with regards to servers, yet they choose not to answer.

You don’t need to be “trusted” to hear that information.

Are the PC dedis going to be widespread, or only private and for competitive gaming? We don’t even know this. My guess would be we’re looking at some form of P2P for the “blurring of MP and SP” and that’s not going to go down well.

PLEEEEEEEEEEASE SD, shed some light on the matter.

(Kinjal) #40

U can go to “whos online” and u will see what thread they are reading. jRAD was here 5+ times, and not only him, but i dont think they can answer, Bethesda allways near.
