How to use D2D preload with Steam?

I downloaded the 5 GB zip, and ran setup.exe which basically registers the game with Steam.

What do I do with the 5 GB of data files so I don’t have to redownload them with Steam?

I would have thought setup.exe would install it to the right location
If not you can try starting to install with Steam, cancelling, copying the files across, then doing a verify through Steam

However this might not work because
a) The Steam files are encrypted until release, so they will likely differ
b) If it’s got a setup.exe files it sounds like these are the install files, not the actual game files

Your best bet is to ask D2D

Doesn’t help you now but if you scroll down past the download links you’ll see your game key. You can go directly into Steam and activate this key there, it will then prompt you to download in the same way it does when you purchase a game.

Check the data files. If they’re .sid, then that would be Steam backup files and you can use Steam -> Backup and Restore Games -> Restore a previous backup to avoid redownloading.

Your suspicions were correct, they are zipped .sid files.
