Hello my fellow frustrated, salty and downtrodden lovers of the shit show that is dirty bombs current state.
What can SD do to turn this game around before this game dies faster than Brink, I hear you cry?
-Delete Phantom
-Reduce melee damage significantly
-Reduce explosive damage on players (in most cases)
Credit where its due, the game shows huge potential in becoming the best FPS ever made! Could honestly be the new ETQW Promod and live forever. Why currently is it not then?.. Well everyone knows the toxicity of the player base has reached an all time high and the reason for this is simple.
SD claim that they are a big fan of the “more skilled” player (in a fair 1v1) should and will come out on top in the majority of cases. This issue is that this statement just isn’t true. This leaves the “more skilled” player deflated and frustrated. They then see this phantom standing over their corpse tbagging him typing in the chat “git gud”. Meanwhile my mans got 3 aces and a positive KD while the phantom is at like 8/32 KD. Okay, okay this might be slightly tailored to my personal experience but you get the point.
So SD say that they value skill in the forms of (in no particular order):
-Map knowledge, including the use of angles and cover. best places to set up a defence ect.
-Aim, the ability to control spread while tracking a moving target trying to land them head shots
-Dodge, like Neo does
-Game sense, listening for your enemy or deployables(mines, turrets minigun whirling ect) Ress timers to get the edge in battle. like prefiring round a corner because you heard a guy or taking a wider line round a corner because you hear a mine.
-miscellaneous, This is stuff like in a 2v1 who you choose to kill first. Or stuff like pretending to plant C4 so they hear and then flanking them when they rush to defend. Team composition ect you get what im saying.
The better you are at these, the higher your skill level and the better you should do right?
Okay so why is that not the case? Here’s why!
Melee damage!!! Takes 4-6 headshots on average to kill a guy with an SMG or AR yet run up to the guy with a cricket bat or stab them in the shoulder with a pocket knife and its too much. Now people are going to say “they shouldn’t be getting close to you with a melee weapon” This is a fair point, however sometimes is unavoidable in the more close range maps. Perfect example is a Kira runs around a corner wielding her katana at 400 miles an hour you put 3 headshots into her in the 0.8 seconds she takes to get to you and chops you in half with about 6hp left. Reducing the melee damage will greatly increase the chance a player base will use actual guns in an FPS! I know its a crazy idea!
This is the same for things like explosives! No way mines should be one shotting mercs (I main proxy) Javelins rocket… These should be tools to gain the edge in a firefight, not do the job for you!
Phantom… This guy just obliterates everything skillful in DB. These guys do not require any skill to get kills. They do not need to aim. They do not need to worry about choke points. They do not need to dodge. They do not require game sense. Why is this merc in the game?
Obviously these are not the only issues, but they are easiest to fix and will have the most impact on the game. Also doing this will force players to use their guns more and that data giving will give a more accurate representation of their actual skill level, In regards to what SD say they value in skill! Meaning better match making!!!
