How to stop the freezes?

Well, it’s not about whether or not you have applications open. It’s whether or not they are full screened on a second monitor. That’s what has been causing the issue for a ton of people ever since the Anniversary Update hit. Even a browser full screened but playing a video can have issues.

And OHM monitors temps and nothing else in regards to your hardware. You’re 100% positive that while you are playing you are not going above thermal thresholds for your particular processor? I know people who have an intel 3770 (example) that claim that everything is “fine” but they are hitting 85c+ while playing. Which is not fine even if it’s below thermal damage thresholds. And I know tons of people with AMD procs that end up going above 65c which IS the damage threshold for many of those processors (depends on which series you own). I’m just wanting to make sure you aren’t breezing over that as a particular issue. Coincidences do happen as do multiple causes for the same symptoms.[/quote]

I meant to add in that nothing else is running full screen. I also don’t have a second monitor, just the one. Temps are all under 60 degrees which is fine for the FX 6300. Did some more things that I thought would work, but nothing’s helped. I could always reinstall, but I doubt it will change anything because I’ve already done that 4 times.

What’s shown in the video posted in the thread happens to me as well.
Pretty damn irregularly the game just freezes for about 1-2 seconds.

I’m using a double monitor setup but I’m still on Windows 7 64-bit. So I guess that’s not the issue.

My hardware should be more than powerful enough but just to make sure I switched to one of those high FPS cfgs. The freezes still remain, so I’m also suspecting that it might be EAC.

It’s definitely possible that this issue could be a windows scheduler issue in regards to core usage and other processes fighting over cycles. It actually sounds more probable now that a few people have clarified the issue a bit more.

Sounds like some debug logging needs to happen to track the issue down. SD would need to help with that.

Maybe this helps in tracking the issue down:

I didn’t have any issues with very early versions of DB. Freezes started a couple of versions after closed beta ended.

It seems that freezes mostly occur with off screen explosions (typically Fragger, Nader, Skyhammer, Stoker). If I can actually see the explosion there’s no freezing. However, this is not 100% of the freezes. Sometimes the screen even freezes during the intro sequence.

When the summer squash update was released and Nexon’s AC went nuts, SD completely disabled AC for a day or so. During that time DB was a different game for me. No freezes and a constant frame rate during firefights. My KDR increased by about 50% or so. Good times.

No movies, torrents, AV etc running in the background (I use Windows only for gaming).

No change after reinstall, Steam cache validation or removal of Shooter-Config.

No change when setting graphics options to low quality.

No change when EAC was introduced.

System info: Windows 7, single monitor, 1920x1200, windowed mode, 16 GB RAM, some Samsung SSD, some AMD Fx-whatever CPU, some AMD R9-Whatever with 4 GB GPU RAM. Never cared much about my hardware apparently, but it’s good enough for about 70 to 100 FPS almost all the time.

Just to bump this thread. I have those freezes since the “fire in the skies” patch too.

(coffee_chanka) #26

bump. I’m starting to get the freeze bug shown in the video, it began after the recent ranked matchmaking patch (a small update which followed the Obsidian mercs patch). In my experience, the freezes have no relation to in-game explosions or red connection warnings.

I’m actually having some FPS drops occasionally. Even lowering the graphics setting did nothing.

And when it comes to lagging, then the EV still makes me slide near it, when repairing…
