How to set monitor refresh rate manualy?

(Glottis-3D) #1

What variable is to set refresh rate manualy? I have monster CRT and wanna set high refresh rate. In nvidia inspector “Preffered refresh rate” is set to REFRESH_RATE_OVERRIDE_HIGHEST_AVAILABLE. Even editing monitor’s edid can set minimal refresh rate only to 123hz but my monitor does much more on 1024x768 :confused:
Please make in next update such variable if it’s not aviable now.

edit1: in dx11 refresh rate is ok but twice less fps…and yes - it’s crashes :slight_smile:
edit2: btw fps is same at 1024x768 and 1920x1080 :\

Yes me too - I just got a new monitor and wanted to see what DB felt like with the 144hz. Turns out I have no idea how to make this happen :(, tried googling, tried lots of random smoothframerate settings etc. But no luck it always stays at 60hz.

How do you know it stays on 60 Hz?

I just got me a 144 Hz BenQ monitor (XL2411T) and after installing the latest Nvidia driver and a LightBoost fix, it runs at 120 Hz with full Lightboost which many people say feels like CRT. Now my memories of playing with CRT got a big vague, but I can say the smoothness is unbelievable. It requires a GPU to run at least stable 120 fps though (better 240) so that you can enable vsync which would fix your fps at 120 or 240 fps and will give you the complete effect for LightBoost. Too bad my GPU barely manages 120 fps so can’t use vsync now. Oh, forgot to mention, lightboost is available only for Nvidia GPU. Plus you need a monitor to support it (there are 5-6 on the market atm).
This all is about LCD monitors though, not CRT, dunno which one you bought en2ie.

But even w/o LightBoost, 144 Hz were simply so much better than any 60 Hz I ever had before.

I didn;t set anything in-game though specifically for this refresh rate, only set res to 1920x1080.

Shooterengine.ini

MinAllowableRefreshRate=120
MaxAllowableRefreshRate=120

Turn Vsync on to check if it worked, or force via Control Panel.

I can tell because there is massive screen tearing / its looks like a slideshow (don’t think I can go back to 60hz now! :tongue:). I also have a small tv that i use as a second monitor which I opened up the nvidia control panel on - to see what the game was changing the screen setting to, and it kept going back to 60hz.

I have the Asus VG248QE which has the lightboost stuff. I installed the driver and registry hacks for enabling the 3d without the glasses for quakelive - its awesome! :smiley:

MaxAllowableRefreshRate=120[/QUOTE]

Thanks, yeah I tried these from the other thread - it seems that provided I run DB at the same resolution as my desktop that the 144hz will remain on. But if DB has to change to a new resolution when it launches it will choose to go to 60hz.

I tend to run my desktop resolution at just below the native (yes everything is slightly blurred) because its easier on my eyes - but I use the native whenever I am playing games. Think I am surely in the minority who does this so perhaps most people wont experience this problem with DB

Aaah so you don’t run DB on native res? That requires scaling and it costs framerate. I wouldn’t do that if your GPU is not too crappy. Actually my fps increased when I switched DB from 1680 to 1920 on lightboost.

Note that Lightboost doesn’t run on 144 hz - you need to set the resfresh rate manually to 120 hertz in nvidia panel.
Also, which IR emitter hack for lighboost did you use? There are two ways - I used a quicker CRU program way. It sets up the correct resolution and refresh rate for 3D stereoscopics of Nvidia, so that Lightboost could kick in. I saw it immediately due to increase of brightness and also lightboost option in monitor osd got unlocked. There (at least on BenQ) I could set up the scale of Lightboost.

I am though still unsure if I should also set up the above cvars in shooterengine.ini

Will try that now just in case, can’t harm I guess.

I run at the native 1920 x 1080 in DB (and any other games), but outside of the game I use 1600 x 900.

The one from here: http://www.blurbusters.com/zero-motion-blur/lightboost/

(Ashog) #8

Yeah, I took that tool from ToastyX below on that page.

Strange that you run game higher than desktop - usually people do the other way around to boost performance in-game. Doesn’t make much sense to me but I guess you have your reasons. You also probably know that different res on desktop and in-game is the main reason for tearing.

doesnt work for 162hz :confused:

(woll3) #10

Interesting, with my NEC everything works fine. :confused:

(Ashog) #11

prove it :wink:

(dommafia) #12

I had it working on my old Radeon 7970 without any issues.

(Ruben0s) #13

But not out of the box. I use strobelight which is basically lightboost, but it works with AMD cards.

(Raviolay) #14

It works with AMD, you just download strobelight and run it. http://www.blurbusters.com/zero-motion-blur/lightboost/

If you don’t have the IR & 3D glasses you need to run the strobelight hack anyway to get lightboost to work with a Nvidia card without glasses.

(dommafia) #15

I assumed the strobelight app was required for everyone. Good to know.

Does lightboost work at 144hz? I sold my 120hz benq 2420t and bought the 144hz 2420te newer version. And share any thoughts u may have on 120hz vs 144hz

(Mustang) #16

LightBoost hack only works at 100/120 Hz not 144 Hz, without LightBoost you can have 144 Hz, but most prefer the extra smoothness of the LightBoosted 120 Hz.

(dommafia) #17

Ah ok sounds like I’ll be downgrading to 120 and keep using lightboost then. Thanks.
