Hello there, been a pretty avid player of Dirty Bomb for a while now and after hitting level 70 just as the “lucky” Saint Patrick’s cases got taken down I had a thought. Disregarding the annoying things being a high level normally gets you in a game - random hate, harassment if you stomp people, harassment if you don’t do well, random kicks to “balance” the game etc etc. How about we actually make levels beneficial to the player in a means that doesn’t give them any actual power advantage and is more than a glorified E peen measurement. An idea crossed my mind would be a sort of prestige system, that say every 25 levels you could change the percentage chances of getting higher rarity cards in normal equipment cases by a marginal amount permanently for your account to a cap of course, we wouldn’t want cobalts and golds to be made common as bronze. Anyhow I just toyed around with this idea and thought it might be worth voicing another crappy idea the devs will of course never listen to, or maybe look at and stamp the old SOONtm poster onto. Thoughts anyone?
How to make levels actually useful. (sort of)
I’d rather see some kind of Prestige mode at, say, level 50. Your visible level gets reset and you get a trinket. Get to 50 again and you get an even shinier trinket. CS:GO has a similar system, it’s a nice way of showcasing your unemployment dedication. A bit like the snowman, but not tied to seasonal events.
Yeah that could work, something like this should be put into the game at some point just to reward those who have stuck with the game for a while however I think level 50 is pretty steep however, in terms of time commitment thats say 600 hours or so. But hey, the harder they are to obtain the rarer and more prestigious the object becomes I suppose.
I’ve always been a fan of bringing back individual merc levels. In past builds before the game went into open beta each merc had a max of level 10. If you hit level 10 you unlocked all their taunts and stuff like that. I’d be totally OK with this as people could quickly know that you’ve put some time behind certain mercs but not throw hate because they don’t know how much time beyond that you have. Games aren’t sorted by time played/levels anyway so it makes sense.
You could also attach fun achievements (when the game gets them) and even events to hitting max level. SD could also make it so that once a year or so they could have an event where merc levels go up with new achievements, skins etc. that goes to people who max their mercs again. Things that are fun but but don’t lead to abuse. The current system typically only leads to abuse and people thinking that matches are unbalanced before the game even starts.
@Amerika The only thing I don’t like about your suggestions is that they aren’t already in game.
I like the case idea, but people will start farm EXP to get better case percentages at all cost.

I also thought it would be cool if they had a system like this implemented and in addition when you hit certain levels with an individual merc (could be max 20 or 30 for example) you are rewarded with different “stock” loadout cards that (possibly?) could include augments. These cards could require a combination of things to unlock such as a certain level and specific challenges such as getting 100 headshot kills with a certain weapon or something like that.
I think it would incentivize players to play mercs that they like and spend the time completing challenges that actually reward the player with something cool and not just an equipment case which will almost guaranteed give you a low ranking card.
I like people having access to everything out of the gate pretty much. I wouldn’t want to lock anything behind a 100-300 hour wall per merc unless i misunderstood you.
oh no I didn’t mean that much. And anyways these would just be extra stock cards, no fancy skins just different weapons and such. In terms of hours maybe anywhere from 1-20 hours, 20 to unlock a really special reward of some sorts. I totally agree, 100-200 hours would be absurd expectation. I am talking about something that is there for players to work towards as stuff like that always improves the replayability. Not that DB doesn’t have lots I just think it would be cool.

this goes against the no-P2W philosophy : playtime should not in any one correlate with available tools/power. Pretty much anyone can get a desired bronze card in 1 day of play, which solves any P2W drama right out the gate.
Wouldnt mind some special skins for e.g. 100h with a particular merc, or 10k kills or whatever; but no new loadouts/augments/weapons
I “just” reached 30 and already get blamed if i pick my least played mercs like Phantom/Thunder and suck. Next round i go Kira, wipe the enemy team just to get hate from the enemy team… . :’(
The thing is with the levels that theyre nothing you actually care by yourself because you dont get anything from level up except that single free case which is… lead. So i play for fun without an actual “goal”, not that this is bad because its the sole reason of a game to have fun but some kinda goal to work slowly towards wouldnt be bad either.
About trinkets i actually got 2 but dont use em because… i dont care about them. Giving out some Bronze/Silver/Gold/Cobalt cards every 10 level is aswell not what i would want, not that i would say no to a cobalt card, but its not that kind of goal working towards i would think about.
Merclvl might be a good idea against harassment but on long terms would be something maybe not that satisfying since ya, lvl… .
Maybe something like badges which can be applied to your Namebar while in Gameroom (and ingame?) for all kind of stuff like 50/500/5000 revives. But aswell its cosmetic but it would scale up indefinitely. Naturally there would be an limit for it like 3-5 maximum and you could chose by yourself which are shown.
PS: Badges like and bracelet, imaging the namebar being your arm and having a bracelet around it. Thats how i would think of it visually.

my idea has nothing to do with P2W, you completely misinterpreted the idea.
