How to make ice

lOL, How to make ice? is a texture the same as water?

(FireFly) #2

you mean the ice players can slide on like in fueldump and railgun?
create a brush and use this texture on the top: textures/fueldump/icelake_top
and this texture on the bottom: textures/fueldump/icelake_bottom
,now apply the nodraw texture on all four sides of the brush. Both textures are a bit transparent
so you might wanna create a second brush with one of the sandy textures ( textures/fueldump/riverbed for example) and place it right underneath the first brush.

can you explain the “nodraw” part.
like what to do? 4 sides?

hey,

im not 100% sure what firefly means but i think its this you gotta do:

Make a brush which will be your ice.

Hold Shift and click on it. Then apply the common/nodraw texture on all faces of the brush. (press T to open texture window and select “common” in the textures dropdown menu)

THen, hold Ctrl + shift and click on the TOP of the brush. Then apply the ‘fueldump/icelake_top’ texture.
Then hold ctrl + shift and click on the bottom side of the brush and apply the fueldump/icelake_bottom texture.

Im not sure if the icelake texture is slick by itself… you can try it and if the brush does NOT behave as ice, you can make a VERY thin brush (1 grid high for example) and lay it over the ice and give it the ‘common/slick’ texture…

but i always use the ice texture found in snow_sd texture folder… im not sure its slick by itself tho… and it also depends on what kind of map your making… this snow_sd/ice texture is very fake imo if you use it for realistic maps… but its good for trickjump maps for exmaple…

u can also apply snow_sd/icelake2_opaque
this is a non transparent ice texture (like in railgun)
