How to make Extraction more appealing

(attack) #41

i would be nice if the hardware minimum would be increased and the mapsize will increased this way.
btw what is the russian version doing?long not heard about it

i personally enjoy the shooting and flow of the mercs. i understand development process and the time it takes, but there are things that need to be done asap if you dont want people running around bad mouthing your product, hence why i screamed from the mountain top about server size, and spawn waves. They’ve been very open and honest about their plans in the short term. we all knew that a few patches would be balance tweaks, and one can only assume the next few will be mercs and maps, than back to balancing.

i just truly hope that they will take community map design into serious consideration or this game will be DOA

Is this an actual thing? I find it really hard to believe there is such a restriction but I’ve never used unreal so…

Surely other games using unreal have made use of much larger spaces and similar player counts no? Seem so silly for such a restriction in a widely used game engine?

the multiplayer game with wides space based on ut3, which i know ,was tribes ascend.
but tribes maps have not much “details”

(Glottis-3D) #45

it is offline for several monthes. so there is nothing to hear about it atm =)

As mentioned ad nauseam the maps are dire. I honestly believe it stems from a misguided idea that 5v5 was the optimum player count and that should equate to tight, linear maps.

I think the biggest problem for new player retention is that there is no ring fenced servers for them to play on - they basically join a game and get demolished by alpha/beta players who’ve been playing for months. Coupled to that is if they come from COD they’ll be wondering why the hell it takes nigh on a full clip to take down a player.

Not sure how you cure the problem as there’s hardly enough players to fill one 8v8 server let alone run ring fenced ‘level restricted’ servers.

Most of my experience has been (A) Many past SD players don’t stick around period *many times ego related (B) Players from other games say they like it © Those players can’t find games because much of the invites went to past SD players that quit (D) Player balance is a huge issue in pubs and very few have the courtesy to try and even teams *comp players constantly state that they don’t care about pub (E) For an U3 engine and a F2P game, the system requirements are way too high

Still I’d say it is better to get more invites sent to players who don’t have set expectations for SD if we want to fill servers. I also think a match making system is becoming a priority at this point as well, and will produce more accurate echo data for the state of the game at varying skill levels.

Pretty much summarizes the issues as I see them…

As a ET:QW pub server provider the comments stated above tick (or cross) all the boxes.

And my experience:

(A) Many past SD players don’t stick around period, because the game doesn’t meet their expectations. Only a very few due to ego related problems. (Actually I can only think of 2 players).
(B) Players from other games say they like it, but disappear after a few days playing
© All players can’t find games, because the game is not long-term motivating to play
(D) Mostly the games are played on objective mode servers with random teams, so somtimes you are lucky sometimes not. But this doesn’t only apply to new players.
(E) Performance is still a huge issue

SW servers don’t have shuffle enabled right?

I know the shuffle isn’t ideal right now as all the skill based tracking stuff isn’t implemented yet, but the “good” players not balancing because “who cares about pub” is the main reason I’m sticking to obj right now, the other reason is it’s not as much fun to play the same map twice in a row without a reasonable level of teamwork.

No, sw servers don’t have the random shuffle enabled that’s also the reason why I prefer objective mode more.

(shaftz0r) #53

obj mode with the current map rotation hurts to play. going through the 4 maps in 20 mins is far from enjoyable

(Rex) #54

For me it is more enjoyable than spending 30-40mins on the same map with imbalanced teams.

It would be simpler if every participant here, had a small symbol defining there play style. Its funny to see that ‘pro’ players discuss with ‘pub’ players.

Ever noticed that in ET pro scene, about 3-10 maps are played again and again? While every pub servers rotates a few hundred maps? These discussions lead no where. ‘pro’ players either try to vote next a map, or leave. Its not even the question if there choice is justified of either party.

I wished match making was already done, and each player marked by what the statistics did figure out. Or if the scrim every day… get marked as such.
Yeah Anonymity is a problem there… but we are frigging testers, supposed to give valuable feedback. These discussion do not reveal much valuable insight like this.
Maybe everyone here is ‘pro’ player anyway? … I can’t count myself to that group, since I still enjoy those few hundred maps more then playing the same map again and again. One of the reasons I do not really enjoy Stopwatch.

(attack) #56

youre right but many of the 100 maps are a other version of et temple with 2 additional spawnpoints :D.

you are right about the 10 comp maps and the 100 pub.
but the most pub servers are nq or jaymod with doublejump … maps like minas tirith are simply a rapefest and unplayable in serious mods.
the etpro public server have nearly the same maps like comp some older too.
the problem in xt is we have no usercontent maps ,so all maps should somehow work with both.
also consider that some of the standard maps of et like goldrush and oasis were played in comp in the early years and some are still be played.(also we have some remakes of rtcw)

I cant speak for these Pro players you speak of because most of the time they are banned from the servers you talk about for so called “haxing”. but I also know that a ton of these custom maps were crazy big for ET and almost felt like BF. People didnt want to come in and waste their time in a spam, arty and panzer fest.

It was very frustrating triple dinking 3 panzers and a 4 panzer jumping out and smashing you.

You guys are like, banana is better, next comes but I like apples… and I join in and say I like Kiwi - give me KIWI!
What do you expect SD todo, make a shake of all that, and think its gona please all of us?
If we would at least know what each one likes/ prefers, we would not end up in endless discussions.

endless

Yeah, shaftz0r probably keeps stating to eternity that he doesn’t like bigger servers. Well, you can also blame me for keeping to respond every time.
