just a few days ago i was searching real long for the same thing. but found not the exact thing i was searching for.
this one might be helpful, but you might just found the same stuff i did. i am interested in such a tutorial too.
seems like everyone is using terragen for the creation of skyboxes. i would be interested in doing it in 3dsmax or afterfx. (found a tutorial on after fx on youtube but the guy renders the box onto a sphere not a cube)

this tutorial is about how to create a skybox from a photo wich is not very handy.

oh well then you need your 6 pictures and the shader in the right location
this should look something like this.

the shader
///////////////////////////////////////

textures/your_skybox/the_skybox
{
qer_editorimage textures/your_skybox/picture_for_texture_selection_in_radiant.tga
surfaceparm noimpact
surfaceparm nolightmap
q3map_globaltexture
q3map_lightsubdivide 256
q3map_surfacelight 75
surfaceparm sky
q3map_sun 0.924 0.948 1.000 75 220 60
skyparms env/your_skybox/the_skybox - -
}

/////////////////////////////////////////////////

your files
//////
the pictures in this example are in
/etmain/env/

the pictures you see in radiant is in
/etmain/textures/

the shader of course in
/etmain/scripts/

the pictures need to be named like this
the_skybox_bk.tga
the_skybox_dn.tga
the_skybox_ft.tga
the_skybox_lf.tga
the_skybox_rt.tga
the_skybox_up.tga

/////////

this is the basics. to find the right light settings is another story maybe someone knows better than me an can put some info here.

greetings

cyburk

sorry…i’m an idiot…:frowning: :frowning: still don’t get it…

(-SSF-Sage) #6

From the shader:

skyparms env/your_skybox/the_skybox - -

Textures of the skybox (“walls of the box”):

the_skybox_bk.tga
the_skybox_dn.tga
the_skybox_ft.tga
the_skybox_lf.tga
the_skybox_rt.tga
the_skybox_up.tga

//To use that skybox in your link, just unzip it to etmain and apply amethyst7/emeraldfog/emeraldfog_skybox to the inner sides of your skybox (caulk other sides)

thunderpwn in you first post you ask for howto make a skybox, and say you want to use the emeraldfog …

the skybox emeraldfog from amethyst7 is already functional, all you need todo is use it. Maybe one of the ‘sky walls’ is wrong, then you will have to check which 2 *.tga have wrong ending… and exchange ft (front) by bk (back) for example… there is even a shader file included

ok, but i need to put the texture on the void box?

EDIT:

and in the shader it says:

//****************************************************//
//									//
//	emeraldfog.shader for GTKRadiant			//
//	by Amethyst7 - 02.19.2002				//
//									//
//****************************************************//

textures/amethyst7/emeraldfog/emeraldfog_skybox
{
	qer_editorimage textures/amethyst7/emeraldfog/emeraldfog
	surfaceparm noimpact
	surfaceparm nolightmap
	q3map_sun 0.8 1.0 0.9 75 270 35
	q3map_surfacelight 50
	skyparms env/amethyst7/emeraldfog/emeraldfog - -
}

can i still let it be as it is in the zip file with the ENV FOLDER?

edit again:

didn’t see this:

//To use that skybox in your link, just unzip it to etmain and apply amethyst7/emeraldfog/emeraldfog_skybox to the inner sides of your skybox (caulk other sides)

sorry…i’ll try again

and never forget to add the name of the shader to the shaderlist.txt
