How to make a Capture the Flag (ctf) map for ET

(shdizzy) #1

Hey, I was wondering if there are any tutorials that explain how to make a ctf map for ET. I’m currently looking to make a ctf map, but I was unable to find any comprehensive or ctf-specific (versus returnable objective) or ET-specific tutorials on how to make any type of ctf map. Right off the bat I realize that a ctf map can be done in several ways, but I would like to know if there are any tutorials or if there is anybody who can tell me how to make a ctf map of the following style:

1 flag on each side and 1 return point on each side (not the same location, as in traditional ctf maps). A team can only hold 1 enemy flag at a time, and they can cap the flags at their own return point even if the other team has their flag. First team to cap 3 flags wins.

Thanks in advance for any input.

haha I am just finishing off 1 now, but the place to return the flag is at my own teams flag, so I can’t help you mutch there, but I looked into RayBans compass counter and flags and stuff from him to make my map

RayBans compass:

that link is dead though, I think, but ctf_face has it too, and they say that u can use it if you want to the part that RayBan made

Download and check out ‘Loffys CTF Prefab version 2’.
It has the .map file. And you can use that map file to make your own CTF map.

Indeed, CTF_Face_B1 (the map Troy and I made) has CTF gameplay which is similar to what you want. Except here, the drop-off point is the same as the flag location, and you cannot capture a flag if your own flag is stolen. But that’s just trivial things which can easily be changed.

Search around for things made by RayBan, that’s exactly where we got our CTF stuff from, including MOST of the script.

We did create something to prevent the flag from staying at places where players cant reach it by placing a ‘goal’ there which doesn’t give any points but still returns the flag instantly.

Also, in our map, the team with the most points wins. I believe that in RayBans sample map it is even a draw if the score is 2-1 for example.

Also, RayBan’s sample map comes with a very cool compass-scoreboard.

If you feel the need to look out CTF_Face_B1’s script feel free… you can use anything you like, but it would be nice if you left RayBan and us a credit

I don’t think the source of our map is published but we might do it soon… then you can see exactly how we did it.

But it’s still easier to take RayBan’s sample map since that is concentrated on CTF play.

wow I didn’t know you were in the ctf_face team :stuck_out_tongue:
cool, weren’t you going to make a second version with comets crashing in and damaging random parts of the building?

I heard troy say that on jaymod forums a long time ago…

I believe Troy was working on that idea yes, but I don’t know how far he got. I stopped mapping for ET so I didn’t help with that anymore.

RayBan also made CTF Flags & Powerups:

Don’t know how your map should look, but it should fit.
The screenshot of the flags is a bit old, in the version you can download the signs are different and better.
