How to improve ranked in Dirty Bomb?

First of all, I think there is couple things that should be changed in game to improve competive experience.

There is a huge cap between regular ranked players and those who come to try it first time. In my opinion with couple simple changes this could be fixed.

- public servers with friendly fire on

 • 5v5 and 6v6 servers
 • maybe getting 1.25x credits from these servers, so players would actually play on em (or something like that?)

This way it would be much easier to players to start playing ranked, because there would be a way practice it in peace.

In Enemy Territory, competitive scene kept game alive for years. It would be shame not to focus on ranked gameplay in Dirty Bomb.

Sorry for my bad english, cheers.

 • competive configs for PUG/scrim servers.

Including:

 • merc ban
 • map ban
 • map call vote
 • restricted max mercs on team

etc.

There wont be any public 5vs5 servers. SD made this clear a while back.

There are 5v5 servers in the browser now for TAW, OCB, and maybe other DB community groups? AFAIK those are not password protected like the DBN servers are. Still hosted by DB/Warchest but for now they are the closest thing to community servers in DB.

Yeah, they are community run servers. But there wont be any 5vs5 servers from SD. And I think this was his point, to make public servers 5vs5 and 6vs6 to make them more similar to ranked. And this wont happen with the SD servers (5on5)

ALL the servers are SD

While I would love to see a merc ban in competitive, the roster size is pitiful. Look at a game like Paragon, in which competitive tournaments can only allow 1 ban per team, and their hero roster is bigger than DB’s. In my opinion unless a roster can afford to offer 2 bans to both teams, a merc ban will be more restrictive than making the game more competitive.

A better restriction would be to limit players to field mercs with bronze loadouts or higher, ensuring that players are truly on a level playing field (I haven’t actually tried to enter ranked with a lesser loadout, but I assume people can play with anything, even default).
