How to Fletcher

(KattiValk) #1

So, our fabulous Nigerian is back in free rotation, and I’ve been giving him a few hours of play time and thought I’d ask how Fletcher mains time their stickies. I’m not exactly bad at it myself and have gotten quite a few sticky kills but direct sticks always come as a pleasant surprise. I’ve been in a lobby with @Sniff and true sticky prowess is significantly more reliably to put it lightly. How can I improve my ability to stick people?

Also, I sometimes press 4 when switching to knife now. Damn these habits.

@Sniff I summon you!

@Szakalot @Eox @Haise it’s our time!

A lot of it is muscle memory and practice. I have 400 hours with Fletcher counted, and that’s not counting alpha and closed beta.

I personally run with sticky’s out most of the time. I started practicing learning how sticky’s interact with the hitboxes with the first Derpy Bomb (In my signature) by throwing them on unsuspecting people. I used Q and E though so it should be much easier for you. Do not use Q and E. Using Q and E makes it way harder to use Fletcher lol

I moved onto aggro sticks on Fletchribution and jump sticks on Fletchampion.

In the end it’s just a bunch of practice and dying. I only have a 1.4 kdr with Fletcher but I get regular 2.0kd games in pubs. Your stats will suffer.

Fletcher’s speciality is holding corners and chokepoints. Your weaponry is powerful, but has a serious range issue, so the key to Fletcher is positionning.

Everything is more or less a question of throwing angle calculation. Try to hit from spots where they can’t hit you : stickies can be lobbed so I very oftenly use that mechanic to bust enemies from their cover. I’d say that my favourite pass time is to give an eviction notice to those Auras who feels too safe on their own health stations. With Fletcher, you really have to exploit the map and obstacles as much as you can. You can more or less consider every corners, chokes or walls as potential friend.

About in combat direct hits… Well actually, about any kind of direct hit : it’s more or less pure practice. You have to work and work and work again, it’ll come with the time. I’d also say, if you can’t go Fletcher for any reason, play Sawbonez and try to do some direct hits with your med packs. I feel like it can help a bit.

My last advice would be : the best way to fail is to try too hard. If you feel like you really can’t do anything, switch merc or take a break.

Also jump like crazy. Stickies don’t suffer from accuracy penalties, so do long jumps to carry momentum and just throw off enemies aim.

It’s annoying to play against, but Fletcher doesn’t have the most of any merc, so you may as well do it.

Fletcher once you get how to use him is the funniest merc and a very usefull one. And one thing that you should do is make a bait, so maybe shoot someone, let them follow you and then prevent when they are coming and throw a sticky bomb, this will give you the advantage, also, as how CCP115 said, just jump, use loadouts with lock on or quick draw, I recommend you the A31, or the BL33 or BL32, any on those, Im using the loadout with tough, flying pig and quick draw, for me is the best.
use your EMPIRE 9 in close quarters and the BLISHLOK in long range combat.
Fletcher has a Hit n´ Run playstyle, use corners to stick someone, and then follow them with the empire 9.
Try to prevent 2 vs 1, is possible but is usually hard, because sticky boms aren´t like a grenade launcher, with a huge AoE, so if 2 enemies are following you, use corners to your advantage to stick them.
For spectating people using fletcher in free rotation, something inside me died, one thing that you should do is as soon as you throw the sticky, press E, in close quarters is a viable strat, if you are trying to stick someone at medium to long range, perfom a long jump, and throw a sticky, and wait until you hear a stick sound, then E, but in close quarters usually the bombs will reach the target before it explode

Thanks for the advice everyone. I’ve improved a bit though I’m still working on jumping,

(Drcipres) #8

I did get the aprove of Sniff :stuck_out_tongue:

(watsyurdeal) #9

My favorite tactic is to blind throw around walls and corners, take mental images of people’s positions and land a stick. Works great in close range too, as long you’re quick about it.

(Drcipres) #10

That is the key, use corners and try to guess when the enemy is going to come

imo, he need little change as fletcher user.
fletcher’s damage is little overpower.
i think sticky bomb’s damage have to nerf to 90.
and fletcher’s max possession have to increase to 4.
are you agree? or do you have other opinion?

He’s perfectly fine as he is. He is already hindered far enough by the short range nature of his stickies and weaponry (Blishlok aside). Direct hits are far from being easy to score if you are not near of your target and you can’t one shot 90-100 hp mercs and below without one, who are supposed to be fast enough to dodge them. He’s very far from sharing the raw power of Fragger or Nader.

(GiantGiant) #13

Oh NOOO! Please no Fletcher guides, the less Fletchers, the better for the World.

(neverplayseriou) #14

@Eox he’s an enigineer he SHOULD NOT be even close to the power of an assault…

(Eox) #15

I never said that he should match the power of an Assault.

(Drcipres) #16

Every engineer can reach the power of an assault, but fletcher is the funniest to use

(CameFromThePast) #17

Why do most people prefer Blish over Ahnuhld? Blishlok is considered as the worst smg(which is true), and Ahnuhld is great for finishing targets, much better than blish.

(Drcipres) #18

Because it gives range to fletcher, it has a higher RoF, basically, the shotguns shoots slower and the SMG faster.
