How to deal with toxic/depressing teammates?

This gonna be long.
So today I opened dirty bomb, and felt myself trying ranked mode, I expected it to be nice and funny since that is what this game is about, its not even fully developed yet to be extremely competitive. How naive I was.
First two games went that good, because the enemy team was constantly accusing me of aimbot or whatever they thought I was using (I have many years of experience in shooter games and rolled over them). However, it wasn’t my team who was disrupting my fun.
The third game, which I have played 10 mins ago, was pure sh1t, there was a player in my team, insulting everyone else because he thought they were doing worse than him (I was myself on 12k score at the end, with this guy 4th on 4k at the end). The worst part was that he was emphasizing how sad it was that we were so bad (not even) to not be able to win the game (the typical “get a life cod player” comments, and the “go play tetris noob” advices).
Turns out that I couldn’t even report him for that behavior, because there is not button to, ALSO, the votekick button didn’t work at all, otherwise we would have kicked him instantly, the whole team was against him, and some gave up because of that depressing attitude he had.

I do not know if this is the correct subforum, but I was in the need of writing this short story about how I joined a game aiming to have some nice time, and getting annoyed to the point that I am not going to play again today.

Please, do something before this game reaches that unplayable point for casual guys trying to spend some precious time playing your game.

how to deal with toxic players?

Don’t.

You don’t have to deal with them. Ignore & move on.

Saving the internet is a grave mistake, save the energy for people that actually matter : )

Def. agree that votekick needs a ‘buff’, and the mute option should work for chat, not just VOIP.

I’ve been getting flamed a lot recently by new players coming in. One guy just spent three rounds insulting me for playing Nader. I wish they didn’t get under my skin, but they just piss me off so much it ain’t even funny. I need to remember there’s a mute option. v_v

I agree that being able to apply a total mute on players would go a long way to fixing this.

I also feel that players should get a pop-up whenever someone mutes them because this would be an effective means of negative reinforcement.

Although it shouldn’t say WHO muted them, because that will just encourage bullying.

When players are being negative or hostile in my games I either ignore them or try and make a joke out of it.

Remember: these people are TRYING to annoy you. Reacting with anger is exactly what they want, so it will just makes them worse.

(This is another reason why them receiving a popup when they get muted is a good idea, because it indicates that they are being ignored, which for them is exactly what they don’t want)

I usually offer them a hug, and tell them that they don’t have to prove anything to us, we love them already

Alternatively, I point out that insults really aren’t very popular in DB because it’s aimed at a more intelligent crowd (which is completely true).

Hopefully they will move on to other games where their toxic behaviour is more the norm.

If they bother you over voice chat mute them in game.

Thanks for your comments, I decided to play without voice chat for some time but I can’t help looking at the chat everytime a message comes up because some times it is useful :frowning:
Also, looking back, this situation didn’t occur many times, I think this game isn’t that crowded with negative players

edit: Ok here I meant blocking all communications with a specific player should be possible.

Mute resets in between rounds, which I learned the hard way

Kill them with kindness. Misery loves company. It tends to go away when you are nothing but nice to them.

I recommend stabbing/cricketing them to death on a regular basis and teabag them when the opportunity comes.

On a more serious note, just ignore them. They tend to pant when they face a wall of ignorance. That’s hard, I totally agree, but that’s the most appropriate way to make them stop. Imo, avoid muting your voice communication, because you could miss players who are actually using it for teamplaying. You should not block yourself from useful information for some random toads.
