How To Create A Custom Trickjump Map?

(wizman88) #1

Hey I was wondering, how did those other mappers get terrain, objects, etc. from other mapper’s custom made maps? I mean like in LNATrickJump or FullCrazy Train Jump, they have like tons of trickjumps from all different kinds of maps like Fueldump, Radar, Railgun, Oasis, etc. How did they do that? Maybe they used some type of .bsp to .map converter or asked for the .map file from SplashDamage? I have tried looking online everywhere for this kind of subject but came up with nothing. I also tried directly e-mailing them, but no reply was given back. Thanks to anyone that can help me.

EDIT: I would “NEVER” use such a technique above for any of my own purposes for stealing from other mapper’s maps for use in one of my own.

There is more to this situation than I think you understand. I would tell you how but I do not want to get banned from these forums. If you haven’t made any maps yet, this is the wrongway to start…you will be in wayyyyyyy over your head. :chef:

Hey wizman… I remember you from a QD server (or was is QV?). I was using the alias <sfm>Gatekeeper…

The way they do this is… well, they basically use illegal programs to convert the .bsp to .map. I hear that these programs are not 100% accurate, either. Like EB says, if you’re trying to become a new mapper, this is the wrong foot to start off on. :>

/me slaps TFate around for giving missleading information.

bsp are converted into map -files with same program you compile your maps. There is nothing illegal in the program! I <3 my q3map2!
This topic is by the way discussed here several times. You just have to know how to use search! Actually I have given the solution how to conver .bsp
files into .map files several times.

edit: fixed stupid typos.

Even though these so called “programs” are not illegal, I would “NEVER” use them for the making of one of my own maps as I said in my first post above^, but even though i’m a beginning mapper I would never drop so low as to doing this.

Even though I could decompile a .bsp to a .map file with “Q3map2”, I would still not use it for stealing, I would only use it because it is a necessity for actually compiling your actual .map to a .bsp.

Basically, I was just asking a question as to how they used these “programs” to steal terrain, objects, models, etc. from other mapper’s maps for the use in their own map. Its quite an interesting subject if you really think about it. Sorry for the inconvenience to everyone that I may have caused. I’ll try doing some more searching online. Thanks.

seven_dc, I did not know you could use q3map2 to convert .bsp to .map… you learn something new every day, huh? My fault.

just creath different rooms and make jumps that you would like be inventive .
(like in maniac mansion)
(hex-trickjump)
best developers in trickjump maps i must say .

(dark-tim) #8

if that “stealing” is ellegal, why are there so manny maps with the goldrush tank in it?

(Ifurita) #9

Maybe because Goldrush was specifically included in the mapping tools, as a .map file for people to reference and use as an example? Call me crazy, but …

on topic tho:
Trickjump maps r fun but i dont think it would really matter if you’d make a LNA-copy…
… Try “converting” some q3 or RtCW trickjump maps (ASK PERMISSION 1ST OFCOURSE!!)
i know i wont b bothered to jump over the oasis wall in 3 diffrent trickjump-maps, if u understand my point…
