How to be effective with Vassili?

(OatmealFox) #1

I just started playing with Vassili, and I tend to do alright, around 6500 points in stopwatch. However, I seem to always have a negative k/D ratio, and as this is one of Vassili’s main functions, I think this is the area I need to improve in the most. I find that I do the best with the PDP, but have never used the Felix. Any tips?

Don’t play Vassili till your aim and survival skills are much more honed?

Pretty much.

-recommend using either the MOA or the PDP, with the MP400 as your sidearm; the MOA might be better for someone just starting with sniping as it encourages being more careful with your shots

-practice good crosshair placement. Make sure that your crosshair is always next to a corner from which your opponent might appear, so that one you do see them you are already aiming directly at them, or at least very close so that you only have to make a slight adjustment

-recommend having a low enough sensitivity that is low enough to use your arm for most aiming and your wrist only for slight adjustments, and also use strafing to align your crosshair with the opponent

-have your ADS sensitivity equal or close to your hipfire sensitivity, I think that setting it at 0 will keep it proportional but I swear it feels a bit off, you can open the console and enter “SetFOVSensitivityScale x.xx” to adjust it more subtly, I use 0.02

-by taking all these steps, most of the time when you are about to take a shot the aiming process should be relatively simple as you crosshair will either already be on them once you scope or at least very close and only require a simple flick of the wrist to adjust

-I would advise against hanging back and getting sparse picks, play aggressively and get into your opponents faces so that you can contribute the most to your team. It may sound risky as a sniper to not sit in the back, but once you train your reflexes and aim, you will be contributing so much more. There are times when sitting back might work, and even some really good snipers that play like that, but I say leave that for later if you want to play like that

-Also don’t just chuck your heartbeat sensor in the general direction of the enemy with no thought put into it, try to hide it behind walls and other pieces of cover to make it hard for them to locate and disable it

Copied this from my reply to another person asking about sniping.

Good choice using Vasilli over Aimee or Redeye for now. Not saying that he’s weaker than the rest but he’s more of a safer choice as compared to the other 2.

-Decent hp
-Machine pistols
-You have access to the MOA, PDP and FELIX
-Great ability to keep you alive

Its common for me to get 2.0 kdr and if its an intense match with good teams, i’ll probably do better because they won’t be too focused on me.

First, you’ll have to lower your mouse sensitivity, I use 6.1 ingame. So that you won’t adjust or drag too much when searching for a shot.

Second, aim for headshots and not bodyshots 80% of the time. This is very crucial to your success as a sniper in DirtyBomb. You need to force yourself to adjust your aim to the head and not take an easier shot to the body.

Third, before you scope in, move your screen over to the opponent first, where you know the crosshair will be either on the opponent or close to him. (This is when you’re unscoped)

Fourth, throw out your heartbeat sensor and prepare for headshots past the wall that you’re marking on, give yourself some leeway because the mercs move at different speeds, you might not be able to be so accurate if you place your crosshair just next to the wall line. Maybe 2 heads distance.

Fifth, practice how to half-step (I don’t know what other people call it), which is to strafe out of cover and take a shot, then move back, rinse and repeat. The better you are at this skill, the safer you’ll be against opponents.

Sixth, @$!# gets serious when you’re fighting against an enemy sniper who’s already on your position. Do not keep Half-stepping at the same damn wall (this is a very common mistake and I usually make them pay for it when its a sniper duel.) Move to a new position so that you have the element of surprise when HE half-steps in and out of HIS own wall.

Seventh, be brave and play an aggressive sniper once you know that you’re decent with the sniper. Majority of the pubs won’t expect an aggressive sniper and that’s when you get the element of surprise and make your mark as a complete sniper.

Additional tip. When fighting against players who jump, aim for the mid-air shot, don’t wait for them to land if you can. Remember to make full use of your pistols.

Oh and welcome to the Sniper Squad.

A complete sniper is one who can sit back and pick kills yet is also able to hunt and play aggressively.

How to play Vassili? Well

Don’t play Vassili.

Here’s proof - http://imgur.com/a/PcGCp

Please note that although I have more Aimee screenshots (because I love that merc dearly), Vasilli is still the wiser choice for a beginner.

Aimee has low hp and her ability isn’t as user friendly as the Heartbeat Sensor.

get your accuracy on point and you’re good to go. Also, you have to be withdrawn from the battles or else you will get continuously killed.

Use PDP and gg. That weapon is easy to use and much more forgiving than the Felix or MOA

okay, for me the best loadout is the MOA, magnum, cricket bat one. but i highly recommend any loadout with unshakable. people will try to get you out of your camping spot with grenades, and this surely helps.

sensitivity is yours, however, set the scope sensitivity to 0.2, that way your sensitivity is the same scoped and unscoped.

aim for headshots, only headshots.

throw hearbeat sensors at chokepoints, or at points where your enemy can come from to kill you, while you are watching a different part of the map. my favorite thing is camping the elevator on the second half of underground. throw it to the right of the elevator in between the wall and the elevator. that way it covers half of the escalators, and you will be notice if someone is in the elevator going down. if so, preaim the elevator and you will have an easy kill when the doors open.

if you are being agressive or someone is attacking your position, go for a quickscope with your sniper, doesnt matter where, then spam the pistol at them, and if theyre not dead. smash them down with the cricket bat. also walk backwards and around corners, then pre-aim the corners

aim for their spawn. you get the most amount of kills when people have just spawned and are running to the fight. when the match starts i always run up to a spot that views the enemy spawn and kill people trying to go into the map. biggest example is trainyard defender side. in the first phase, always go to the bushes to the left as you spawn. you can overlook the river and surely get at least one or more kills of people trying to cross the river.

on underground on defense i like to camp up on the catwalk. you can jump there from the middle building, throw a heartbeat at the elevator as a warning for incoming people. and then just pick people off as theyre running around to the generators.

Defense is your friend!
let them walk into your crosshair.

when attacking: know where your enemy will bunch up. on chapel offense, always run right into the right building, and run up the stairs in there. now you have a perfect view of the catwalk, and have an easy shot on people running over it, and the people trying to go on the MG. throw a hearbeat either in the doorway to cover yourself, or on the catwalk.

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned it, but…

IF YOU CAN’T GET THE HEADSHOT, TAKE THE BODYSHOT!!!

This is crucial in games because as a sniper using the MOA, Felix, or PDP, you take off a good chunk of health with just 1 bodyshot. This helps a lot because either your teammates or you can take that person out as they keep running toward the objective. Or, at the very least, it will stop them in their tracks and make them take cover. Time plays a huge role in Dirty Bomb, especially in Stopwatch.

Obviously you should always get the headshot when you can, and keep practicing getting them. But a bodyshot can be just as effective.

As a side note and off-topic, I find that a lot of people don’t realize the importance of time. For example, on Bridge, I rarely ever see anyone else help me stop the defenders from repairing the generator after the EV is repaired. The defenders spawn far away and are pushed into narrow corridors making the EV pretty easy to escort past the barricade with only 3-4 people.
