How to be an Invisible Phantom

(Wedgebox) #1

I’m tired of all these noob Phantoms acting like there so invisible with there refractive armor. So here is how I usually play Phantom and what I’ve noticed about him.

Use your damn gun

Your gun is a weapon too. Press 1 and equip it instead of walking around trying to slice people with a katana like a fool.

You are most invisible when your not moving

DO NOT use refractive armor in front of enemies. Make sure no one sees you & check your corners. If you see an enemy coming towards you or if you know enemies will come to where you are, activate the armor and stay in a corner will enemies will pass or in a corner next to the doorway. This is best used with squishy mercs with 110 HP & below. Especially Proxy or Sparks.

You don’t have to get close to the enemy to sneak up on them

If you notice an enemy walk right past you, try to crouch & get some headshots on them. This will surprise 'em a lot.

Be aware of Katana damage

Phantom’s Katana doesn’t do equal damage on everyone. Some stronger mercs like Fragger, Rhino, will easily squash you if they spot you. So don’t be afraid to whip of your gun instead of your Katana. You can also get a few slices at Fragger, and then if he jumps back shoot 'em up. (Whatever you do do not try to kill a Rhino with a Katana. It just won’t work.)

Phantom is so effective with a gun and the strongest counter against enemy deployables.

I wish SD didn’t portray him as a pure-melee character :frowning:

Agreed. Nooby Phatoms need to stop using the katana, it just makes Phantom more squishy when your shooting him in the face with a gun.

If people aren’t smart enough to realize how effective his gun is, then that’s their fault.

We had the same problem in TF2, I had to convince people so many times that their gun should be used in the vast majority of situations.

My favorite Phantom loadout actually has a cricket bat

Dat sweet double time + drilled combo…

The sword does the same damage to everyone, the problem is that not everyone has the same health. The slash only does 60 damage (but is fast) while the stab is a whopping 90 damage (but is slow to hit and slow to recover). Against Rhino’s 200 health you have to stab once and slash twice just to down him (you’re better off shooting him in the head) while against like mercs you only need to stab them. Most mercs require stab and a slash.

Also, to add the bit about damage, Chopped isn’t as good as you think it is. It use to be useful back when Vassili had 100 health, and before we had a much more useful perk, since it brought the stab’s damage above 100 (also make dealing with Fragger easier). Now, we have Quick Slash which is much more useful, let’s us strike and quickly recover for follow up attacks.

All in all though, you’re better off with the gun. One of the best perks to use when you’re a starting Phantom is the Gen 1 C42 or CR62 for training purposes.

(what’s the generation 1 with sneaky and the knife? Give them that one.)

That’s literally what I said…thanks for “clearing up” what I tried to say

Never. Sprint.

No it isn’t. There’s a difference between absolute ( @“Grave Knight” ) and relative ( @Wedgebox ) damage.
