How to add snow atmosphere...?

(radiant) #1

in subject… HOW? plz help

(Doc) #2

Read the docs. They tell you.

([rD]MrPink) #3

And how do we read you, Doc? JK

(Doc) #4

:banghead: ET Designers Reference Manual… grumble…

(hhhmmmmm) #5

Dont think read the docs is a good enough answer. could someone explain it in easy stupid terms :stuck_out_tongue:
Like i tried to add snow, added all the relevant keys and nothing not a single drop of snow :frowning:

(lennyballa) #6

you also need a tracemap ;), and good mapcoords, it only snows in the area with the coords.

(Doc) #7

Regardless, the OP could’ve worded it better: something like “I’ve read the docs and put the same ingredients in (carrots, etc) but the cake doesn’t taste right. Any ideas?” is better than asking “How do I make a carrot cake?”. Tell us what you’ve tried and what’s not working, and be specific, or else you get answers like mine above.

Peace.

Yes, I like carrots, and yes, I’m hungry.

open your entity window and type the following

key: atmosphere
value: “T=SNOW,B=5 10,C=0.5,G=0.3 2,BV=20 30,GV=25 40,W=3 5,D=2400”

i think its that simple. Those above values are taken from railgun, but you can adjust the above values tp change speed, density, ‘gust times’, and all sorts of stuff by using the below chart:

T RAIN Type of effect (sypports ‘RAIN’ or ‘SNOW’)
B 5 10 Base times (X seconds, or between X and Y seconds)
C 1 1 Time to move from base to gust (X seconds, or between X and Y seconds)
G 0 2 Gust times (X seconds, or between X and Y seconds)
BV 0 100 Base vector (x and y units/sec)
GV 0 100 Gust vector (x and y units/sec)
W 1 2 Weight of particle (X, or from X to Y depending on base/gust position)
H 0 If a particle gets created more than this amount of units above a player drop the creation spot down to viewheight + H (this parameter is optional)
D 300 300 Number of particles (baseparticles / gustparticles) - max 3000

…Then load your map into ET, go to the console and type /developer 1 and /generatetracemap, then reload your map and snow should be there.

well, what can I say? Everybody seems to have the same problem. And I am getting the feeling that the docs are part of the problem. I would very much appreciate docs. But frankly the few notes and links that come with GtkRadiant are simply not enough. And searching the internet for clues takes days. So I would really like to see those who commit themselves to helping others to actually do so.

So much for that.

Now on to my problem: it snows for me! So thanx to all who posted the help here. BUT… it only snows locally. Meaning that it doesn’t seem to snow when the map is on a server. What is wrong? We are runing a linux box. No generatetracemap there. Now what did I miss again??? Pleeeaaassseee, Masters of ET, help me. I am too dumb to read the right docs for this as it seems.
