Welcome BloodMan

Specifically for FritzBot waypointing;

You need a windows PC, with ET 2.6, and FritzBot ET (0.70b or 0.70c) installed and working. Waypoints are added and edited in-game, (but scripting files, and some optional files are edited in text).

Waypoint tool (optional but helpful for verifying/modifying waypoints, requires dot net 2.0)
http://forums.bots-united.com/showthread.php?t=5073 (more stable version by CrapShoot)

and there are tutorial maps partially waypointed on my Geocities page (link expires Oct 2009) that you can learn and practice on.

Specifically for Bobots waypointing.

For Bobots you need either Linux or Windows, ET (2.6?) installed , and the latest version of Bobots (4.08?) working.

I agree. that’s why the next version of omni-bot will auto generate a navigation mesh:

…[/QUOTE]

Since it takes me only about one full evening (while still listening/watching TV/Music/Internet) to get most of the navigation nodes placed in most of my FritzBot waypoints and a few more for all actions and scripting, waypointing does not suck for me. Granted testing to my high standards and tweaking for better team balance can take me weeks (especially if the map is uneven to begin with).
Navigation meshes and AAS are interesting I suppose but they remind me of my experience with autorouters, if you don’t spend a good bit of time setting them up at the start, you can expect to spend a good bit of time fixing silly things later. And sometimes things don’t complete. And a mesh does not handle mid-air paths, actions, routes nor give the bot your experience in keeping under cover.
Anybody who has learned how to use GTK Radiant, Q3Map2, shaders and map scripting (plus a half dozen other apps) has IMO shown themselves capable of learning one of the bot mods. The key is to learn waypointing and try it on a half dozen maps rather than just one. That way you are challenged and don’t forget what you have learned. Now CrapShoot and I could debate the better choice but I think it’s been done.[rant_off]

I welcome Bloodman’s interest, and if he wants help with FritzBot I am at his service.

This is a discussion forum and I’m not registered to bots-united so here are my 0.02$ …
Regardless to used technique and way of implementation omni-bot has one big advantage. It runs in combination with ET mods. Most public servers run a mod and I assume admins/players won’t appreciate loosing their favourite mod for bot functionallity. Afaik fritzbot is standalone? Correct me if I’m wrong and no offence but we should mention this info here.

It’s my personal opinion: If a mapper wants to support bots omni-bot is good choice atm there are many more servers able to run it instead of fritzbot. At least this is the situation of bots & ET.

running around a map adding waypoints and connections is one of the most mundane tasks imaginable. autogenerating navigation for huge maps in the matter of minutes wins no matter how you want to spin it. i’m not here to debate anything. the nice thing about an active project and an active user base is that things have progressed extremely far in the 7 months since that quote you linked (in which i was intentionally not trying to step on any toes …). i’d never say anything bad about fritzbot since i was there long before you and have a great deal of respect for Maleficus (who sits next to DrEvil at iD Software these days btw) so how about we cut this line of discussion off right here since it is pointless.

my point to the op was that very shortly there will be a means to have new maps completely pathed within minutes, not hours.

Fully agree

neither do I

Indeed wp creators have more time to focus bot gameplay scripts …
