How should Turtle work?

So now that Dockyard is being released (PRRAAISSSE THE LLORRRDDD), it’s a very real possibility that the other elephant in the room will be addressed, our good ol’ Turkish friend.

But people forget why Turtle hasn’t been released; his shield ability has problems. Blocking off routes entirely, difficult placement balance, but also general ineffectiveness defending people because it’s so damn small and short.

I have a couple of ideas of how the shield could be reworked, but what ideas do people generally have? What’d be the best, in terms of gameplay balance and usability? Should he carry it around Rheinhardt style, or plonk it down to block off routes? Should it have health like other deployables, or should it be on a timer?

We can’t get Turtle until we figure this out.

Like this but with limited health and it lowers gun acuracy as its harder to shoot around it and it doesnt cover whole body. Can be used to help engi get to ev by providing cover bit cant block routes. Maybee even one on back that shares health with front

DB back in 2013 and DB now are two separate games, honestly.

His shield may have been useful back in the slow paced days of DB. But now, with the current movement system and gameplay meta, it’s tricky.
Phantom got lost in translation, though reports say he was still OP back in alpha. I get a feeling Turtle might share the same fate, even after he’s released.

Halo-style deployable bubble shield, it even has the hex theme. Have it deflect projectiles and weaken incoming bullet damage or some shit, I don’t know, I just know I don’t want a boring wall.

What I have in mind is the shield should give team player spawn shield for short time, but it canceled when player do combat move. It have health and all the damage team member taken while in spawn shield period redirected to it, of course only in radius/behind it.

From the footage I’ve seen, Turtle seems a tad useless. The time to kill in this game is so high, smashing yourself behind cover like that just doesn’t seem terribly useful in a game this fast paced.

Maybe instead of it acting ONLY as tactile cover, his shield can be something to hide behind if you really need to, but it could have an AOE buff to your defense. Like Aura’s ability, but not for healing.

We already have a walking mounted machine gun called “Rhino”, kinda beats the point of portable MG.

Hence why I’m all gung ho on what I suggested because it has the potential to be a massive change to how the game might play. Also it’s not a fucking wall.

I love the idea of a portable MG. Would really change up some gameplay on a few maps. Using trick jumps to get to a nice location and plop a MG down? Incredible.

It would be, but we already have enough people that can kill, (Assaults). We don’t need another hyper-offensive merc.

honestly i think it should be a hybrid shield that he can carry around while shooting a sidearm and plop it down when he for example tries to plant, much like the shield in one of the CoD games, now this shield should have enough health not to be melted instantly by a rhino, maybe by giving it resistance against bullets but none against explosives like the EV does
