How much damage does it take to finish a player off?

I think it’s half of their base HP.

I thought it was base merc HP up to 100. So Aura or Sparks would take 80 damage to gib out since their base HP is 80 but Fragger would take 100HP with a base HP of 150.

It’s definitely close to that if not exactly that.

I’m not sure, because it annoys me that you can just do a quick slash with the Beckhill knife and gib them when they are down but it takes 2 bodyshots with sniper rifles to take them out.

Throat slitting, because they’re so vulnerable most likely. No animation, but it feels implied.

@Dawnrazor is right: Half the base HP, but the knives do instagib hardcoded.

You can check that also from the XP you get from gibs. The relation fits.

The only source I’ve found on this subject is from June. If they have changed it since then I have not found an official word on the change. If they did change it it may have came with the next patch that followed the Sparks release.

For mercs whose base health is >100 their gib health is 100; for those <100 it is 90

Interesting the 80HP mercs have 90HP when downed? The split at 100HP makes sense for consistency but why not give all mercs with <100 HP the minimum, 80 HP when downed??
