How much damage does a sticky bomb do when not stuck?

So I was under the assumption that the sticky bomb does 80HP damage when stuck. So how come I just had one person one shot me with a single sticky as I had 100HP on Pheonix, was full life and it wasn’t even stuck on me?

Did they buff the stickies? Or was it a bug or even an added damage cheat? I’d really like to know what was going on there…

When stuck it’s 100. When not stuck but very near your feet still is 100.

Stuck to a player = 100 damage to target, 80 splash damage to anything within radius.

Stuck to floor = 80 splash damage to any player within radius.

I’m pretty sure I’ve killed >80 health mercs in one shot without direct sticks. I know you do 100 damage to yourself if you are directly over them anyways.

So it could be a bug? Am I right to assume that a sticked sticky bomb will show on your screen, if it doesn’t then it hasn’t been sticked to you, or are both events not necessarily related.

Could be either that you get stuck and don’t get the stuck animation on your face, or that stickies are doing too much damage…

They are not doing too much damage. You simply misunderstood the damage model of stickies.

Stuck to your lower torso, legs, sides or back they will not show on your screen.

They should deal more damage because either they’re underpowered, or other explosives like mines should deal less damage. It’s a joke if you get 150 HP down as Rhino from a mine 2 meters besides you, or 200 HP if you step on it. (and someone said a mine is only dealing 150 HP max so a Rhino should be 100% safe from them)

Actually no. I wouldn’t enjoy that because it would mean large downsides to it in other areas would be applied.

My initial assumption was that there would be some sort of balancing along the lines of Nader’s nades that deal 80HP on impact. I’m surprised that the stickies deal so much damage and nobody ever really mentioned it. Like everyone went crazy when Phantom’s blade dealt 100HP damage, but radio silence on fletcher. I guess all his bugs used to make him balanced. Finally, playing as fletcher I never really noticed he has so much power on the stickies. It takes me always a couple of them to actually deal substancial damage and I only remember one shooting sticked one on light mercs… Anyway, I might try him again to see if I was mistaken…
