how many maps

(therapiist-_-) #1

Did splash Damage said how many maps brink going to have once they release the game for us too play on? I know MoH have 8 and i dont like that i trade it in…cod bo have 14 i believe…

(H0RSE) #2

I would say they have around 12-16. That is purely a guess.

(Hellracer) #3

The shiny parts are the maps we already know of, Following this map i believe Brink will have around 14~15 maps.

(tokamak) #4

Does it really matter? Not every map might be equally big or long. The amount of maps says nothing about the amount of content.

(therapiist-_-) #5

12- 16 be nice to have. im looking forward to hear what splash damage going to say…I would be getting two copy of the game, one for my bother and myself…

(tokamak) #6

What if they decided to divide each map segment as an individual map? That would be at least 36 maps! That’s even better!

(Kinjal) #7

10-14, but my bet is 12

(Gogeku) #8

I don’t really care if they only make 5-6 maps as long as they’re all awesome and suited for competitive play:p

The more important question is: What about custom map support?
The big flaw of Quake Wars was that ranked servers only supported official maps => no one played custom maps.
Please, don’t do the same mistake.

hi Jediguardian
Gogeku, the more maps, the less fast it gets repetitive… some of the maps in ETQW where absolutely awesome, but still, they got repetitive… So I would like to see 10 maps from the beginning, and 2 maps every 2 months or so?

Sup Spaiker
By adding good custom maps to the ranked servers, SD will win:

  1. Longer life of the game
  2. Not having to make new maps themselves and having to hear the whining if they don’t.

That is only one way to look at it. I look at it as the unpredictability of playing multiplayer coupled with solid gameplay is what keeps the game fresh and new constantly. This is why I could play Vanilla RTCW and W:ET for hours everyday and never get bored.

Needing a “change of scenery” to keep the player interested, seems more like a problem with the player and not the game.

Thing is, there are no ranked servers any more, no excuses now for not trying them out (unless they are crap).

Yes and the big flaw of W:ET was no quality control.

Blaming ranked servers is bull****. Starcraft 2 has a very tight ranked match system as well as an incredibly lively custom community.

ETQW simply didn’t have a large enough playerbase to support a custom community.

It was certainly a major factor though but this is another discussion.

Ontopic, 12 maps would be great I think.

Opinion but I find this, “need new content for game to be fun” philosophy misses the whole point of online multiplayer. As in you should be gaining enjoyment through the experience of playing with others rather than an exploration of the content.

Now of course variation in content may bring variation in the experience so it’s not totally irrelevant just not, imo, the primary component of what makes a game interesting or boring.

So that said I’d rather have 8 quality maps over 16 flawed ones. Mostly I’d rather have a large, active and fun community.

You people are all forgetting that only a few maps SHOULD be ok, but the teeming masses require new content, and they require it NOW! It’s the COD generation. They want their mass produced poop to regularly recycle because they have the attention spans of a newt

(madoule) #18

i’d prefer quality over quantity.
i do not know how custom maps can be made availabe thru steam. is there an option? can somebody enlighten me?

That’s exactly what I think about it.

a quality community is far more important to multi-player fps than anything else.

DLC is the easiest way. SD chooses a handful of the best community maps and sends them out into the world as DLC. This ensures that every PC player has all these custom maps, and therefore the audience is there to ensure they survive…
This is how Killing Floor works. They’ve had about 3 DLC updates afaik that have introduced community maps to the world universally.
