how has phantom affected your gameplay? merc choice?

im interested in hearing what has changed in the way you play the game.

for me:

rhino, used to main this guy, cannot kill a phantom when he comes from behind, drastically reduced playing him. sitting duck syndrome.

fletcher, main him, still using him, playing the objective, often having trouble going toe to toe vs phantom cause kek10 severely outdamages empire9 and he tanks too much.

sparks and aura: used to main one of both, aura in offensive positions mostly, now feeling like a sitting duck waiting to get one shot. i havent played both since phantom release.

phantom, i main him now. no reason to not have him. so much flexibility, defense and offense. hillarious sometimes, mostly just feeling lame though. wish he was not here.

vaseline: playing him a slight bit more. not just because of his sensor but because the game has become quite campy and stale at times. people dont move as much as before and prefer to sit and wait. i guess phantom indirectly buffs vasilly.

i see very few bushwankers atm, does the turret even detect or not? i never noticed :expressionless:
could be down to him being out of rotation of course.

i also see less auras. perhaps because its the biggest victim to phantom. stationary, gets one shot, heal station does not help in that situation.

Flechy all the way, Shoot with shotgun press Q and E almost together and most of the time kills phantoms…Sometimes i get killed too and then there are some of those annoying moments when stickies deals 0 damage !

No turret DOES NOT detect clocked phantoms !

3 phaton in same team and game over that’s how mercs affacted.

(Potato_Ladder) #4

My main mercs used to be Sparks, Proxy, Nader but since the rotation arrived, I changed from Nader to Fragger, have to add some variety.

I admit getting katana from the front is very annoying but at the same time I enjoy using Sparks’s cricket bat to kill a Phantom.

Rhino has a pretty easy time to kill Phantom, don’t run around always with your Chaingun out and you should see improvement, because with the shotgun you counter Phantom pretty badly.

(Roldoi) #6

Ok so I’ve fixed my game and 2 games in we had two phantom players on top of the enemy team. I’m not joking here but in the end their KDR was 24/7 and 20/7. Phantom is horribly imbalanced

(capriRocket) #7

well then i die by any other enemy instead haha, always gotta keep on spinning.
the minigun has the fastest time to kill, the problem is that when he comes at me and i dont see it, its over.

(savoryLettuce) #8

On the other hand there has to be a use for that shotgun…and thats most likely the use.

um no, trust me thats not its use. i often go 50-70 to 10 on him, i know what im doing.
phantom is not killing me directly, hes able to easily run trough my whole team and come from behind.

(DMaster2) #10

Against a competent Phantom it’s basically pointless to play as Vassili, since you have almost no chance of fighting back and the sensor is not enough. So i switch to Skyhammer so i actually have a chance to kill that annoying merc

(watsyurdeal) #11

Considering I was using Nader and Sawbonez most of the time, he just gave me another merc option, that’s it.

(GregHouseMD) #12

I no longer play mercs with 100 HP or less. It’s just not safe.

(Ghosthree3) #13

Try hard is now mad value.

(Vexed) #14

I actually play more Aura than I did before. My aim is pretty terrible, but currently most Phantoms I encounter are also terrible -> I stay alert, see them coming, and turn tail. They chase. Always. Run for a corner or two then 180 and unload. Won’t work against anyone with a brain, but… that has not been an issue. Because, y’know, I am bad so I get to play in the kiddie pool.

(scrub_lord) #15

Gave me even more reason to play Vassili. Tagging all the Phantoms with the sensor helps prevent potato temmates from getting back-stabbed the entire game.

(ayybailey) #16

He almost renders Proxy useless. He one-shots her and, with that stupid perk, he can do minesweeps and disable all of her mines.

As Skyhammer, it’s not so bad. At least I can survive his first hit and hit him a few times to uncloak him before I die.

(blamelessZuchinni) #17

Funny. I find myself using Rhino more. All the Phantom baddies end up eating lead.

I also find myself teabagging more.

(Ghosthree3) #18

Yeah Rhino really gives Phantom some trouble if he goes for the melee. Unfortunately he’s even more susceptible to chain headshots from him than other people.

(frzn) #19

I’ve been playing a lot of Vassili, throwing down my monitor for my teammates and just trying to keep an eye out for him at long range so I can harass him when he goes after my teammates. If he goes after me I’ll try to stand in someone’s view so I can act as bait.

Before I was playing a lot more aura/proxy, but I find shotguns frustrating against him because it’s hard to get off the three shots before he closes distance. I still play aura/proxy though because I don’t have a less squishy medic/objective specialist and sometimes nobody else will do the job.

Fortunately, most phantoms will just keep bull rushing you with their sword all game instead of ever bringing out their kek-10. They’ll still usually end up at the top of the scoreboard but usually end up having little impact on the outcome of the match.
