how hard to implement fire mission bombers?

this is just an idea, but how hard would it be to implement an image of a
bomber flying over the clients pvs when a fire mission gets called??

it would be just for eye candy, just for visual effect… but lets say when a
fire mission gets called ( only a fire mission ) and regardless if the player
called it or not, the server would send to the client to display a flat image of
an airplane flying over quickly, as long as the duration of the actual fire mission
sound gets played. even if the fire mission is not in the players pvs… like it
was called at the far end of the map, the client side would still show the
bomber going overhead ( the player would see it, if he/she can see sky…)

something like this,

which is just a simple image of an airplanes underbelly,

something that a client can turn on/off with a cvar like cg_render_firemission_plane 1 ect…

im guessing something like that would be impossible without the engine code?

Unique1 coded something like this a little while ago. See this picture, it is possible with the W:ET SDK.

Its again a real nice idea from Rayban. He knows what a mod needs :smiley:
We got it for about 1 year now in our mod and it is real nice for the gameplay feeling.
You don’t only ‘hear’ the planes fly by dropping arty, you also ‘see’ them :slight_smile:

whoah… that looks nice… i hope something like that makes its way around to
other mods. are those underbelly images or actual models?

btw, what mod is this in? i wouldnt mind trying it out…

thanks for the pm dutchman, i replied back.

it seems like my mod suggestions lately which to me are obvious little things
to improve the overall gameplay/look are just that… obvious, and are already
implemented in one mod or another and im just regurgitating idea’s that have
been done… =P

but my intentions are good… i just want to see et continue on, since i do believe it has quite a few years left in it, even though the graphics are dated
now. i have cod2, halflife2 and a few other games, but et is the only one i
play online.

Your intenstions are more then good. Thats why i searched & read all posts written by you.
And i really appreciate you and your ideas. Waiting for more :slight_smile:

Anyway i don’t think ET will die soon, we are 100% QW haters and we won’t give up on our mod. Even better, this year there will come another major update and after that another and so on.

Someday RTCW2 will come wich does not mean we will stop.
Its like Quake 3, the engine is just awesome, the gameplay is cool and the funfactor is still amazing today. Then i switched to WolfET wich is even more cooler.

Another factor is the hardware requirements new games have. I just dont want to spend 1000 Euro for a nice pc just to play high-end graphics games wich aren’t fun and way too serious.

The server will be closed when i have no job anymore to pay the server :evil:
