How does the competitive ranking system work?

(DanielFluffy) #1

I have been extremely hesitant to trying out competitive because I don’t understand how the ranking works yet. In CS:GO your performance in your first 10 matches determines your rank at which you start at, is Dirty Bomb the same? Or does everyone start out at the same rank and have to get wins to rank up?
If someone could give me an explanation of it, that would be great. I would like to know if you do start out at a set rank or not, how many match wins it takes to rank up (or on average, incase it’s also partly based on individual performance), and how many matches it takes to lose, and lastly what the rank system is (like what ranks are there in what order).
Thank You!

I believe the game has placement matches. I wouldn’t worry too much about it right now, since it’s so infested with hackers and the matchmaking is bad your ranking won’t really be accurate.

Wait until the system is working a little better.

(DanielFluffy) #3

Alright, I did hear there were tons of hackers, I just was hoping to join some competitive teams but most require a minimum competitive rank, and I haven’t done any competitive yet because I don’t understand ranking yet.

There are roughly 10 placement matches. Some people report more then that, but I think it is ten or fairly close to it.

You start unranked for your placement matches. And I’m not sure what is exactly required to move up in ranks. I just know that it takes awhile to move up.

Here is what we have been told about ranked so far.

Leagues and Rankings have arrived in Dirty Bomb! These are enabled for all Competitive Matches, so if you want your ranking, competitive Stopwatch mode’s your ticket. After completing a series of placement games, you’ll gain your first league ranking. You can see your current rank on the Home tab, as well as next to each game mode within the Competitive tab when finding a match.
Over time, your ranking will update to reflect your overall skill and match performance. In a nutshell, winning matches will see your rank increase, which will eventually result in promotion to a higher division. Losses will work against you, and can see you demoted if there’s enough of them. There are also penalties for leaving Competitive Matches early, so bear that in mind when diving into that mode.
There’s a lot of math going on behind the scenes, and all of that should result in competitive matches being a lot more, well, competitive.
This release is only the first step - we’ll be refining and adding to this system in the future, so be sure to let us know what you think of it.

Does Ranked Matches give any sort of perks ?

Also does higher rank give you any perks ? ( I mean like increased XP / Coin ??!!)

no

So I’m a little confused about how this system works too. I’ve played about 10-15 games and only had one loss. I also did so well in several games that both the other team and my teammates thought I was cheating (last game I played I went 54 and 3) but I somehow only got silver 1 as my first rank. Is this a skillbased system or is it a mix between an elo and xp based system? It seems like it’s the latter which really is a big mistake imo since a competitive game should be all about skill, not grinding.

I also had about a day where the game said I needed 0 more wins before I could receive a rank which was a bit confusing.

(DanielFluffy) #8

The 0 more wins/games before being ranked means your placement matches are finished and your next game you will get your rank

(XavienX) #9

What if you lost but you had a good K/D and very high amount of points, it was just your team wasn’t doing so good? Or you did pretty bad, but you actually did really good, it’s just that your teammates did way beyond average good?

(Ardez1) #10

The exact metrics and formulas haven’t been revealed as of yet…

Bragging rights, and stronger enemies.

(Yahiko94) #12

I played competitive with my buddy and I noticed that K/D, score and all that kind of things wont affect the ranking system at all. You just need to win the matches.

But unlike other games, there is no “border” of that ranks. For example you win 10 matches and get finally to Gold 5. Then you wont lose that rank with one lose. Instead you have to lose 10 times to get back to Silver 1 again.

Just for those who don’t know it already

Here’s how Competitive Mode works:

  1. 3% of the time, you will be matched with people who actually know what they are doing and you will get a close game.

  2. 50% of the time, you will be matched with [TRIGGER WARNING] a team of mentally retarded idiots [END TRIGGER WARNING] who will have no idea what they are doing, and will generally all choose Vaseline. If you win in these games, it will be because you broke your back and carried these scrubs to victory while they shoot their sniper rifle at god only knows what they’re even aiming at.

  3. 47% of the time, this Competitive Mode that “searches for players and matches you with similarly skilled players” will drop you in a team of lv 5s, while the enemy team has four lv 14-17s Pro CS:GO players that proceed to stomp you mercilessly.

this or you get cheated lol

just got done playing a comp match where their vassili ran around headshotting every kill. he ended up like 120-13 or something lol

aka matchmaking is fucking useless rn.

While I obviously don’t agree with your statistics re: which team is which, matchmaking is definitely in a bad place right now. I am silver 1 (and really ought to be lower, my aim is utter pants) and I keep facing cobalts. Guess how that pans out?

i believe this system factors all xp not just combat xp

i barely hold up against alright players and i came in at gold 4…

but i play support players and go for objectives, and most of my targets get taken out by someone else near me, and if i have a chance i always revive even if im not a medic

but i also had to play extra matches for my rank lol

(Gi.Am) #17

The problems you guys have is not so much about the ranking itself but the amount of people playing competive mode. The mode can only match you with people willing to play right now.
If it can’t fill a match with guys from your bracket it will match you against people of higher and lower skill lvl. just to provide you with any form of match.

That just sounds like pubs. I guess you forgot the waiting time to find the match, guess this makes the differnce mate

Please do not necro old threads. Wait times were different previously so this thread isn’t valid based on changing game conditions.
