How does Range work???

(watsyurdeal) #1

So when I look at gun stats at various Dirty Bomb wikis

http://dirtybomb.gamepedia.com/Weapons

I see a single stat for gun range, what does it mean exactly? Is that where gun damage begins to fall off? Or is that the maximum range of the gun?

How do I find the exact numbers?

So far I assume it’s the end of damage fall off or start. I’ve been thinking about getting some guys to help on collecting this information in game with weapons to test the amount of damage you take at each range.

Sadly I have school so this will be some time before I have a chance to do this.

Each gun has a maximum effective range, where it will do max damage. As soon as it hits that range it will start to drop off at a steady rate until it reaches the end damage, the minimum damage a gun can do. If it is implying a mx range, I would assume that is the range at which it will start to drop off, since it will do the most damage and therefore let the weapon be more effective. It would be pretty useless if it showed the end damage, as it would not show a good indication of its actual range i.e. a weapon that has a max effective range of 20m and min range of 60m would be better than one that has a max effective range of 10m and the same min range.

I figured it worked that way, just wish I had some more concise values, of where the fall off begins, ends, and what the min damage is for each weapon.

Why not make it like Symthic does with its weapons? That would be an awesome and organized format.

If you don’t know what Symthic is here’s a link to how they do stuff:http://symthic.com/bf4-weapon-charts?assault=1&sort=Class&adsc=DESC

range drop off shouldn’t be in this game for automatic weapons considering how ridiculously low damage automatic weapons do and how fucking annoying it is to kill snipers

(watsyurdeal) #7

Then every gun would be sniper rifle.

do you want lazer gun? You want Shotgun to hit across the map?

i mean you joined in july 2015 i dont think youre Illiterate to DB.

Edit:

i just found out that probably you dont play DB at all
i read some of your things that you say resembles kids that has just joined DB

Effective range is what balances the Blishlock against other SMGs.

It’s what keeps the Timik from being irrelevant to the M4.

I think that there should be a more organized formula for damage dropoff. I know that there’s optimal range, which is the start of damage dropoff, and maximum range, which is the end of it. Effective range is the midway between the two measurements, and is in no way a measurement of either the start or the end of damage dropoff.

I know this information from looking at shotgun stats; the effective range on the shotguns aren’t shown in the actual damage dropoff stats.

timik and m4 range only has a difference of 1m

Are the patch notes reliable for getting exact numbers?

(JJMAJR) #12

Thus the timik is useless. Did I say the timik was good?

For me, I feel like range should basically be like this

Min Range: this is the distance the bullets will travel before fall off begins
Max Range: this is the max distance where falloff occurs, after this distance the damage stops reducing
Max Damage: the maximum damage your gun will do, call it close range.
Min Damage: the minimum damage your gun will do, call it long range, the distance between this and above is medium range.

So let’s say the M4 was like this

15 m, 30 m, 14 damage, 7 damage.

So up to 15 meters the gun deals 14 damage, then it begins to fall off till it hits 30 m, then it will do 7 damage and never do anything less.

If this is how it works already please enlighten me as to where the evidence is cause I can’t find it.

Scroll down for stuff about range. It pretty much works like you say, which I believe is typical in most FPS. If you want exact numbers, you’re SOL. I’ve been skimming all of the patch notes for exact values because I want to make some graphs, but info is scant.

EDIT: After parsing through update notes all the way back to the beginning of open beta, and with what I consider to be the only reliable numbers around, I have a grand total of ZERO complete weapon profiles.
I recorded dmg/bullet, RoF, mag size, reload speed, max/min falloff range, & max/min falloff damage. As far as I know, SD has never released specific values for recoil.

are you fucking blind i was talking about automatic weapons not shotguns u fuck wit learn to read before calling someone illiterate

Then every gun would be sniper rifle.[/quote]

well am talking about the automatic weapons only not all weapons

and besides they do less than 20 damage per shot so sniper is over acting

If a gun has zero fall off, and hits you in the head, it would be pretty easy to kill someone before they can react.

this is your edited Words

this one is unedited. Please dont be a retard and try to pull that sh it on me.
you wanted Damage Drop Off to be gone and then you edited your comment and add for automatic weapons.
