How does lvl'ing up on ranks work?

What are the factors to get xp and to climb up the ranks?

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t has much to do with win/loses. I’ve seen people with the same amount of win/loses having a higher rank than I have. I have a 2:1 ratio in winning comp games.
Someone said that winning streak have a positive influence on your rank. But I doubt that. I won like 8 or 9 games in a row in the preseason and I made like 1/3 from Silver 1 to Gold 5.

Thanks for your help.

It depends on who you play against. Yes, you are right technically by saying win/loss doesn’t exclusively determine rank, but it does in a sense. If you are winning games against what would normally be Silver-ranked players at a 2:1 ratio, it would be different if you would play against Cobalt-ranked players at a 2:1 ratio.

Once you are placed, Elo is gained/loss depending on your current rank and the rank of your opponents. Winning games against higher ranked opponents wins much more Elo than winning against lower ranked opponents, and losing to higher ranks deducts very little Elo while losing to lower ranked opponents would make you lose much more Elo.
