How does aim punch/flinch work ?

(Floross) #1

Is it offsetting your aim every time you get shot ? And for how long of a duration?
Is there more aim punch if you get shot in the head ?
Does more shots per second connected on enemy mean they are aim punched longer ?
As a BR-16 user that often aims for headshots I am curios about all of those.

Thank you for all answers in advance.

It’s intended to randomly mess up your aim.
Sometimes the aimpunch from enemy fire will be in sync with your gunfire, ruining your chances to hit those headshots that you were going for, and sometimes, if you’re lucky, it will punch you between your shots, affecting you a bit less.

It’s a very flawed mechanic, that makes gunfights very inconsistent and frustrating.

Some past patchnotes from when they tweaked it, might give you some details.

Does this mean I don’t always get aim punched when I get shot ?

@Floross every shot will “punch” your aim.
Larger caliber guns will punch you more noticeably, and high rate of fire guns will punch you less, but more frequently.

Thanks. What about headshots ?

@Floross IIRC headshots will punch your aim harder, but I don’t have a video or other examples to give you right now.

No, just knowing that I affect my enemies aim more by headshotting has been very helpful. Thank you wizard.

With the more recent changes your aim will get thrown off but it will snap back to normal extremely quickly. So you’re only off target for a few frames of animation so it doesn’t impact gameplay as much as it used to back when SD first increased it significantly.

Also, some games have different mechanics for this. There are games that only have visual aimpunch/flinch where your crosshair will move up/around when shot but you are still actually firing where you were firing. So you can learn to ignore it and keep shooting. If a company is going to include this mechanic in a game it’s almost always better to go this route than actually changing where your bullets fly.

Aim punch is the only reason I lose my fights to rhinos and pisses me off. Crosshair right on the head but nope! This is a competitive shooter how dare my bullets go where I want them to…that would be asking too much -___-
