How do you work these confounded filters?!

(PillowTalk) #1

Not only did it take a bit of looking to FIND the stupid filters, but they are just normal user input lines that I can enter any character I want into.

But how do I actually use them to, you know, FILTER MY SERVERS?

These filters are far from intuitive, and the only logical inputs I can think of do not filter my results at all.

I would also like to see more detailed instructions on using the server browser filters.

(adrian783) #3

type words in. have you tried that?

(Trypsinogen) #4

Tell me, Mr. Smarty Pants, how can I make a filter that makes it so only servers with people already on it show up?

(adrian783) #5

click on the filters to sort by player count?

(Gearbox) #6

So I can get the Password and Ping filters working.

Now how do I filter these? : Empty games, FF on or off, Co-op vs Versus, Bots or No bots, Global Voip vs no Global Voip, RANK!!!, Security or Resistance Co-op, and/or Friends playing on the server.

While I am glad I can now actually find servers, thanks to the blurred out avatar in the background, I would like to be able to call the matchmaking system of Brink anything but shovelware.

(Obligatory request for pre/post game lobby system; out of server fireteam creation; and built in Team Voip)

Edited for spelling. Yes, I care about that. Move along.

That doesn’t stop servers with 0 players from showing up. Also, I want to filter out any servers where players = 0 and then be able to sort servers by ping. Also, btw, when I do sort by ping it doesn’t even work correctly as a lot of servers get incorrectly ordered.

Clicking on any header sorts by that header.

Don’t forget you can narrow the source before searching by picking Friends or Favourites instead of internet.

They are going to add being able to filter out empty of full servers in a patch, I think that’s the only thing that’s missing.

That said, I am egtting weird behavior where I have favourites which don’t show up in the global list but show up in my favourites list (assuming those favourite and recently visited lists are caches so they load more or less intantly and maybe that’s why it’s there but not in the global one)

This is the detailed config:

 Standard
This is the default config for Brink and is used during the Campaign mode. It attempts to
create a friendly environment for new multiplayer gamers by removing friendly fire and
limiting VOIP to fire teams. The settings are:
o Team Damage: Off
o Maximum Players : 16
o Maximum Team Size: 8
o Rank Restrictions: On
o Fixed Map Duration: Off
o Overtime: On
o Global VOIP: Off
o Team VOIP: Off
o Bots: On
o Voting: Off
 Advanced
The Advanced config mimics the Standard config but removes the more ‘new guy’
friendly settings in favour of a more traditional multiplayer FPS setup, where VOIP is on
for each team and friendly fire is possible. The settings are:
o Team Damage: On
o Maximum Players : 16
o Maximum Team Size: 8
o Rank Restrictions: On
o Fixed Map Duration: Off
o Overtime: On
o Global VOIP: On
o Team VOIP: On
o Bots: On
o Voting: Off

 Competition
This config is geared towards players who like to compete in tournaments and provides
some settings similar to popular ‘Pro mode’ mods in other FPS games, things such as
removing rank restrictions, removing buffs and limiting team sizes. Its settings are:
o Team Damage: On
o Maximum Players : 16
o Minimum Players: 4
o Maximum Team Size: 5
o Rank Restrictions: Off
o Ready-Up Percentage: 50%
o Spectating When Incapacitated: Off
o Spectator Mode: Off
o Command Post Buffs: Off
o Fixed Map Duration: On
o Overtime: Off
o Global VOIP: On
o Team VOIP: On
o Bots: Off
o Voting: Off

 Old Skool
Finally Old Skool is aimed at players who want something closer to the original Enemy
Territory style games, Splash Damage’s previously titles. That means no bots, fixed map
times and no rank restrictions. Its settings are:
o Team Damage: On
o Maximum Players : 16
o Maximum Team Size: 8
o Rank Restrictions: Off
o Fixed Map Duration: On
o Overtime: Off
o Global VOIP: On
o Team VOIP: On
o Bots: Off
o Voting: Off

sort by player count to filter empty games, co-op is “campaign” and versus is “Objective” or “Stopwatch”

(Shadedluck) #10

Empty games: Filter number of players down
Co-op Vs Versus: Look for any game modes called Objective or Stopwatch, campaign is Co-Op.
Bots or No Bots: Servers may or may not have it in the server’s name, click it and read it while it’s scrolling to find out
Voip vs No Voip: No Idea
Rank: Set it to your rank only or your rank or higher in your settings
Security or Resistance Co-Op: Not sure
Friends playing on the server?: Check your friends list, duh

Generally all i do is open the text field for ping, set it to 90 (filters servers with ping above 90) then I sort by # of players, and pick the game that has >13 people, and a ruleset I feel like playing.
