How do you play Vas?

Simple question and perhaps seemingly pointless but I am wondering to the different ways he can be used. Obviously his main goal is to “Get kills” and throw out the heartbeat sensor, but I figure there are still different ways to play him. like for me, I (generally) try to go for aggressive “forward” position sniping, focusing on getting gibs rather than flat out kills. I.E if I see a teammate down someone, i’ll forgo a headshot (unless it’s a medic, medic’s take priority) and gib the downed guy then go back to the picks.

Now the main reason I am asking this is because I am a new Vas (I’ve only just played my 2nd game with him) but, score wise anyway, I’ve been doing really good and I find him fun. Thus I am seeking ideas of how to use him from players more experienced with him by way of comparison, to see if there is any other way to use his talents so I can be as efficient a killer as possible :).

I gotta say though. I don’t mind the hate for being the sniper either. Nothing is more satisfying to me then that one trigger pull, the dink of the head and a headless body hitting the floor. It’s just so…satisfying xD. Anyway, thanks for participating in the thread. Helps me out and I just like interacting with the community.

I’m not too familiar with how he plays fully. Though when I’ve used him, I use his secondary (MP 400) as a primary weapon and threw out heartbeat sensors every chance I get. Basically exactly how I liked to play Recon in Bad Company 2, being in the action and consistently pointing out enemies.

I prefer defending with Vasilli:
I have no need to rush into enemies like headless chicken. I can stay at longer distance and I can try to snipe as many as I can.
Chapel is one of those maps where I find defending most enjoyable:
A lot open areas and many good spots to snipe enemies.

Heartbeat sensor is very useful for whole team as well:
I try to throw the sensor to location where enemies are more likely going to arrive and I can mark many of them at the same time.

Team mates spot them easily as long as enemies stay in the area of heartbeat sensor.

Also if Phantom is somewhere near, I throw the sensor to locate him and try to get him down before he gets too close with the katana…

Just some stuff I’ve noticed in my vassili games… Most of it quite makes sense but maybe some points will be of help to you. Also remember that practise is the most important factor to Vassili, the thing that seperates a good Vassili from a bad one are headshots.

General:

  • Always aim for the head. Doesn’t matter if you miss, just keep practicing. Before you know it people will call you a hacker every single game for giving everyone headshots.
  • Make good use of your HB sensor and don’t throw it out in the open so the enemy will just be able to destroy it.
  • Learn to use your secondairy for enemies that come up close.
  • Don’t always stay scoped in, this tunnels your sight into one specific direction while enemies can come for many different directions.
  • Remember you can shoot through glass, for example the red bus on the last objective of Chapel. Free headshots!
  • If you feel like your scoping sensitivity is too low you can toy around with the setting “SetFovSensitivityScale 0-1” I personally use the value of 0.15.

On defense:

  • Find good cover on long to mid range distances.
  • Change your cover places frequently so you won’t be killed on respawns.

On attack:

  • Unlike defense you do not stay back and shoot them down from long ranged cover, this doesn’t help your team push the objective.
  • Try to flank your enemies from unexpected areas, do not rush however. Try to always be at mid-range to long-range. Scared if multiple enemies might be behind a corner? Throw out that HB sensor.
  • If you managed to push your enemies back, throw your HB sensor somewhere near their spawn for easy spawnkills.

Finally I feel like the best map to practise Vassili on is Chapel, simply has the most open areas which allows you to really practise getting those headshots off.

Not a sniper here so no hands on advise. But from an objective/support/frontline player point of view, you do sound like the kind of sniper I want to have in my team.

Vassilis strength and main team benefit (HB aside) is taking out/damaging the opposing team before the frontlines clash together. Cleaning up, after the main battle is over, is useless (aside from inflating K/D). No point in avenging the death of an engineer, preventing his death is the jobs description.

Since chapel has been mentioned, and that actualy goes for every merc not taking care of the EV (but Vassili is the main instrument in this). Forcing a fight away from the EV and preventing Skyhammer and Co. to reach positions where they can throw airstrikes/kill engineers goes a long way to securing victory.

But from the description you give it seems like you already got that style down.

Thanks  I agree with everything you said and I enjoy the compliments as well. That said sadly I’m not a good enough shot just yet to be able to save everyone I want but if nothing else I try to avenge them and prevent them from being gibbed, never know someone might be able to revive them. I can hitting slow/still targets pretty easy and I am good at flicking to enemy heads, what I really struggle with is the moving headshots…auras most namely. But that is where practice comes into play.

As for everyone else who has posted in this thread up until this point, thank you. You’ve all brought up good points that I haven’t fully considered before and I can already think of a few personal play style changes I can make that would make me more…efficient, for lack of a better word, with Vas. I appreciate it and thank you all and also encourage everyone to keep posting if you have experiences to share

Thanks and happy hunting.
