How do you long jump + wall jump

(meaningfulIntent) #1

I’ve been watching videos for jumping and I know how to long jump but the thing it they don’t really tell you how to do a long jump + a wall jump and every time I go and try to do it myself I don’t get the same effect as the people in the video even if I’m using the same merc as they are.

You long jump towards a wall and then press Space again to wall jump. But I’m pretty sure you already know that. What exactly are you trying to do? Climb a corner? Jump twice on the same wall while moving forward?

Well in the videos that I’ve seen when they do a long jump and then do a wall jump then jump way further than without the long jump combination and whenever I try to repeat this I always fail, and unless this was patched out I don’t know how to do this or I just suck at this. I don’t really need to know this but it just bugs me because I don’t understand why it’s not working for me.

They jump way further than with normal jumps because they maintain the increased momentum they get with the initial longjump.

To do that, longjump on a wall, then keep W + A(if the wall is on your left) or D(if the wall is on your right) pressed and jump again when your merc gets close to the wall. Repeat.
Always use the movement keys when jumping because it’s possible to strafe in mid-air.

protip:
don’t spam space; make a longjump, give yourself some time to gain height and just press space again when next to a wall.

You do long wall jumps by holding crouch while you jump on the wall. So you do a standard longjump towards the wall, then right before you hit the wall press Crouch and just hold it while you press Jump.

Not too sure if that answers your question.

Long jump followed by a wall jump should be as simple as standard jump + walljump. The direction you jump at the wall from is also important, a small ingoing angle results in a small outgoing angle.

and what is crouching mid-air supposed to achieve?

On some walls (mostly ones that jut out a bit, or are sloped) you can jump off the wall twice in quick succession, giving you more height (and speed). Crouch jump into the side of the wall and double tap the space bar once touching it. With practice, you can do it consistently on most of these walls.

A good place to practice is chapel’s ammo box to catwalk jump.

In combination with the wall jump, it turns it into a long jump off the wall

you already are making a ‘long jump’ off the wall cause walljumping doesn’t lose speed

Oh, I didn’t realize that. This one trickjump movie mentioned 3 x longjump while it showed the player doing 3 fast walljumps. So I asked a friend who said you need to hold crouch. Guess he was wrong… Just did some testing in game and it doesn’t seem to make any difference as you said.

I just tried this and it makes a bunch of trickjumps really easy. Is this a bug or supposed to be in the game?

its probably unintended, but it allows for some really nifty trickjumps, so perhaps its okay if it stays.

They moved the damn box and now I can’t do the jump on my first try because I used to position myself in the corner of the box and the wall before attempting the jump… Now I need multiple tries to get the positioning right… :disappointed:

there is a much easier single-jump method.

look at the wall right next to the catwalk:

make a simple forward jump at it - wait until you are at the highest point of the jump (this is crucial) - walljump + strafe right + crouch - enjoy: you are on top of catwalk.

That’s what I do, pretty much.
Unless you mean doing the first jump while looking straight at the wall and running vertically towards it. Is that what you mean? Because I start running and jump from an angle(imagine starting from the old ammo box position and going towards the wall).

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet:

When you wall jump, your character jumps in the direction that your are facing. If you want maximum distance off of a longjump -> walljump you need to face away from the wall at a shallow angle. If you are looking toward the wall as you do the walljump, you will lose all of your momentum.
