Hey there.
You unlock the ability to change your profile picture with 25 reputation points.
Every time someone gives a positive reaction to your post (insightful, agree and like) you get one point.
For example, I’ve just given you a like.
So now you have one point.
People will give you points if you are helpful, friendly or just have a really interesting suggestion.
Giving other users a positive reaction will often lead them giving you them back.
Badges you earn give you points as well.

Even though the above mentioned thread tells you that LOL’s count as points, they actually don’t.
