How do I tell what your map name is?

Okay - question for the mappers. When I’m putting your map in a campaign, not using a menu to call it, WHAT exactly determines the official “MAP NAME” in the .pk3 file? Is it the name of the .bsp? Reason I’m asking, I’ve seen more than one map that has mixed names and/or cases throughout the file, all of which may or may not be different than the .pk3 name…I had been operating under theory that it was the .bsp name, but Caen.bsp is for the map caen (lowercase)

Help, anyone?

Examples:
filename: SG1945_beta1.0.pk3
maps/SG2.bsp OK
maps/sg2.objdata OK
maps/SG2.script OK
scripts/SG.shader OK
scripts/sg2.shader OK

filename: caen.pk3
scripts/caen.arena OK
scripts/caen.shader OK
maps/Caen.bsp OK
maps/caen.objdata OK
maps/Caen.script OK
maps/caen_tracemap.tga OK

name of the .bsp

In the campaign …shouldn’t matter in the campaign if you use upper or lowercase even if uppercase.

Unfortunately with caen the caen_beta used caen.bsp also. So for players that have the final and the beta (and don’t know to remove the beta pk3)…since both contain caen.bsp it could cause players conflict problems …not sure though. On my server i removed the beta from the server and players seem fine even if having both the beta and final client side…hopefully they won’t conflict at some point.

FWIW, if you have too many .pk3s on your server, clients will experience crashes and double loads, just like in RTCW. The value of ‘too many’ is not clearly defined. :moo:

I remember reading …silicon slick did a test and found 108-120 megs worth of pk3s was the limit. Maybe not exact but a number to keep in mind. Its on the forums over at nd80s site somewhere.

reyalP, Styx…just wanted to follow up - I could hire someone to kiss you both. The info about too many .pk3 (too large) causing the weird double-triple loading crap was something I hadn’t come across…very very helpful as it was an issue this weekend… Kept below 100meg of custom schtuff, and everything was fine.
